Mangalore: Noted Konkani Singer Denis Peris Passes Away

Mangalore, Oct 9: The world of Konkani music has lost another of its prized treasures. Denis Peris, a singer par excellence, passed away in a private hospital at 10 pm here on Saturday October 9. He was 65.

This is the third noted Konkani singer to pass away this year after legend Wilfy Rebimbus and Gumat maestro Joachim Pereira.

Incidentally, Denis Peris was one of the key members of early Wilfy Nite days.

Denis Peris, elder brother of famous singer-composer Melwyn Peris, had played an instrumental role in shaping the latter's career. Along with Albert Peris, the trio had established a niche for 'Peris Family' in the Konkani music world.

He also served as manager of Raknno office for sometime after his retirement from Aramco, Saudi Arabia.

Denis Peter Peris was born on August 25, 1945, in the Omzoor parish of Mangalore Diocese. He was one of the five children of late Bonaventure and late Angeline Peris.

He is survived by wife Monica, daughters Sangita, Sapna and Denora and siblings Albert, Mabel, Jacintha and Melwyn Peris.

Funeral cortege leaves 'Danica' Kulshekar  for Holy Cross Church, Kulshekar, Mangalore on Monday, October 11 at 3.30 pm.  Mass at 4.00 pm.
