Fr V J Menezes (80), son of the late Luis and Sebestiana Menezes, brother of Sr Felicita A C, the late Sophia Fernandes, John, Urban Menezes, M Rose and Benita Coelho, passed away on November 20, 2020.

Mortal remains would be kept for viewing on Sunday November 22, 2020 from 1 p.m. to 2.15 p.m. at St Anne’s Friary. Funeral Service will be held at 4 p.m. at Monte Mariano, Farangipet.

I still remember you Fr. Valerian Menezes when you were invited for the Monthi Fest novenas and concelebrated the feast mass a couple of years back (8 to be precise) at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Doha Qatar drawing huge crowds from near and far through your meaningful discourses. Being a shy and soft spoken priest you preached god's word through god-gifted personality driving the message to the faithful thereby inculcating in them the understanding of the holy word. We are confident that you are already in the heavenly abode of our Lord and in the company of the angel's and saints.

Dear members of Capuchin family and dear ones,

So sad to note dear Fr. V J is no more. I met him in 1966 when he was a seminarian and came to preach in Udyawar. Since then we were great friends. He was very close to our family and always used to visit my mother. A great writer, orator, singer, preacher and above all a wonderful human being. He will be not only missed but will be remembered by many. May his departed soul rest in peace.

Dear Vallydattu, it was almost a shock when I heard this morning that you were no more. Early morning I got the news of my nephew Simon passing away early hours of the day, then yours. So two went to the Lord on 20th. Both of you were fond of each other. Simon though unwell himself used to visit you whenever he came to Mangalore. Was happy to be at your ordination in Hospet also on your 50 years of priesthood. You were the only priest in our Menezes family. You always made it possible to visit as well as be available for family functions. I remember you as a semarian, whenever you came for holidays you made it a point to visit us in Taccode and stay and play with us 2-3 days. You have spread the word of God far and wide. Being a writer, musician and preacher you would have touched the hearts of many and brought them closer to the Lord. Surely the Lord will open the door of heaven for you, where there will be no more sufferings, pain but only eternal bliss and peace. We from Taccode family... your elder Bappu's children offer our sympathies to your sisters and brothers and their families. May they find their comfort in the Lord.

During the second half of Sixies decade Father used to write impressive n educative articles with a touch of himour in the bame of Shree Melkhy in Mithr,Poinnari n Rakno.I used to admire these n read again n again.His autobiography also was very straightforward. He was a good Preacher n had given Lenten Retreat in Our Milagres Cathedral twice.Now this will all be memories. MAY Jesus Most Merciful n Divine Saviour grant him eternal glory.

We are sad to hear the passing away of Fr. V.J. Menezes. He was a well known Konkani writer and preacher too. His stories and articles first published in the ‘Poinnari’ a Konkani weekly (now defunct) under the pen name ‘Melcky, Hospet. He was a friendly, jovial and charming person. He encouraged and helped many youngsters to write stories in Konkani. I was privileged to meet and spend time with him when he was doing journalism course in Bombay.
