Bangalore: Publisher of 'Karavali Ale' B V Seetaram Released

The Hindu

Bangalore, Feb 4: B V Seetaram, Director of Chitra Publications which publishes Karavali Ale from Mangalore, who had been in detention for almost a month, walked out of the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday a free man.

Accompanied by his wife S Rohini, Seetaram painfully hobbled out of the court, his leg in plaster, when he was ordered to be released forthwith.

Even as he was being congratulated by his friends and well-wishers after a Division Bench comprising Justice S R Bannurmath and Justice A N Venugopala Gowda pronounced him a free man, two constables who had escorted him from a jail ward in Mysore to the High Court requested him to accompany them back to Mysore.

Stunned by this, Seetaram’s advocate rushed back to the court and the Bench once again made it clear he was a free man and could not be taken into custody. It asked the State Public Prosecutor (SPP) who was present in court to instruct the senior police officials that Seetaram had to walk free.

I do not know what exactly Mr Seetharam wrote in his newSpaper. But  the arresting of a journalist on grounds of what he or she writes is an affront on democracy. If people do not agree with what he writes, then you criticize him either through writings, or through democratic protests, or you do not buy his paper or do not advertise in it. Jailing a journalist is absolutely wrong, a suppression of the freedom of speech and a very dangerous trend in democracy. Tomorrow if a journalist exposes corruption by a politician in power he could be jailed too. Where will this end.

Proud of You-Mr.B.V.Seetaram. I am a staunch reader of "Karavali Ale" for years. Truth is bitter pill for many to swallow. Your picture holding Your Hands up in the air with chained handcuffs should be a symbol of pride to journalists around the world who stand up against the crooks. Keep exposing the Corrupt, whoever they may be. May God Bless you

A person who writes wrong and fake things against a religion should not be released from jail. Be it hindu, muslim and christian. We must  respect all  religions and not try to make issues my passing fake comments in public.

Congratulations on your release. Jouranalists are humans and humans do good and errors . That is why we are humans. What about the truth he displayed in his newspaper Karavali Ale? If mistakes are bitter then the truth he displayed is far better. If such is the case for what his office was vandalized, terrorized, arrested, handcuffed and jailed? Fundamentals cannot recognize humans

Nagesh Nayak is right. B V Seetaram should publish stories against Naxalism, terrorism (both internal terrorism spread by Sangh Parivar particularly in Dakshina Kannada and external terrorism by Pakistan), forcible conversion and anti-nationalism etc. B V Seetaram is great. He showed courage to fight against the anti-social elements like Bajarangadal and Rama Sene. Whole nation realized the wickedness of these Sangh Parivar after the pub attack in Mangalore. But B V Seetaram realized it too early. Thats why he was made scapegoat by the DK police.

Justice is incomplete. If Mr. Seetaram is innocent then the police/ or whoever was behind this should be punnished. Then only we can call it as the real justice.
