Mangalore, Aug 2: The new integrated terminal building of City airport at Kenjar here began its full-fledged operations at 6.00 am on Monday August 2. The Air India Express flight IX 820 arriving from Dubai landed at 7.20 am albeit delayed by 1 hour 10 minutes becoming the first flight to touch down at the new terminal.

Airport director M R Vasudeva and Air India station manager Chellam Prasad accorded a warm welcome to all the passengers aboard the flight. Airport officials and Air India staff too were present on the occasion.

The Airports Authority of India thus finally has shifted the entire operations to the new integrated terminal building even though on a trial basis. Both operations of both domestic and international flights will be handled from the terminal henceforth.

There would be clearer demarcation of arrival, departure and visitors lounge with air travelers now getting access to the luxury of a good ambience and better facilities. However, the passengers would have to wait for another two to three weeks before the newly installed aerobridges are put to use at the terminal.

The new terminal is closer to the city by nearly six kilometers. Vehicles approaching new integrated terminal building will have to take the road laid adjacent to Shree Devi Institute of Technology, and exit from the road adjacent to Dakkan Park.

I hope it is better than the shed that used to pass off as an international terminal before.
After having flown to the many airports in this country, I firmly believe that the AAI can't run airports. Private Companies have changed the face of many International Airports in this country. Bajpe aerodrome should have been given to a pvt company to develop...then the passengers on the first flight would have been able to use the aerobridge!
Oh by the way the 'International' airport is connected to the city by a single carriageway. Opps someone forgot to tell the PWD that a new terminal was coming up. After a scary landing on the hilltop, they still need to bear the scary traffic on this single lane road to the city!!

    Mr Kumar Canada.
can you please tell me is there any direct non stop flight to USA and Canada from entire south India. Be happy with development of Mangalore airport. It is real blessing for gulf travelers. You see I travel very frequently to Tokyo from Mangalore through Bangalore in Cathay . Just board kingfisher or jet in evening by Mangalore and reach Bangalore and take conecting flight to desination in the night. Otherwise we have to take road route to bangalore and it is awsome journey. So applause the development and do not think about negative.

For your kind information Mangalore airport is having maximum international direct flight only after Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. And air india planing to start direct flight to Delhi in near future.
In nutshell dont be sarcastic be optimistic man.

By a coincidence it occurs to me that this functioning of the new airport had to await the arrival Mr. Vasudev. After all he idea has been his brain child.

It's not about saying bad about India or what belongs to India. World over air safety is constantly reviewed. The unfortunate air crash is not also one off thing. There might be loopholes that needs to be plugged and I am sure it is a full time job. Unfortunately, air safety is not installation of a single machine. All mechanisms must be put in place and periodically reviewed for their effectiveness. And our fellow readers have rightly raised the issue and warning us not to get carried away by some glittering ceremony etc.

hey guys,it was the first time any aircraft arrived to the new terminal, so there were officials waiting outside the terminal to welcome the passengers, that is why the air-bridge facility was not taken. Even when a VIP like Prime minister or President arrives from other countries they are usually welcomed near the Aircraft. so, be patient we are definitely going to have air-bridge facility for the future flights.

But truly disappointed there are no aerobridges. So those on wheelchairs still need to be lifted into the craft. Can they at least have hydraulic lift buses, so that handicapped and senior citizens don't have to go through the ordeal of being lifted into the craft.

I also hope that the approach roads to the airport are built to last decades of monsoon seasons.

Better late than never. Hope we do not have to go for an extension shortly as they are planning one for Bangalore Airport.
New Air Teminal should basically include atleast four to five Aerobridges which is a primary requirement for any Airport handling a frequency of flights at Mangalore. Furthermore, considering the rainy season of 4 to 5 months in Mangalore this becomes all the more important. Hope they have this facility downunder. Else I doubt the technology and quality of the work accomplished.

Whoever concerned, please focus on the RUNWAY of the new airport. I do not look behind in saying that I do not feel great about this new airport started the operation today when sincerely reminds me the untimely terrific incident occured on 22 May 2010 that early morning where until the bloody mistake is not being taken care/rectified/solved I say. After seeing this airport instead of happiness a tear s falls from my naked eyes reminding me of the horrifying tragic incident and urge the readers to feel the same too.

Last but not the least I have a salute of mine to Mr. Vasudev and his team for the success of the new airport. Further I still wish to fly to Mumbai and then onwards to IXE by domestic airline and do not force AIE (I take an oath not to fly by Air India Express, for sure my soul is God's mighty hands) and any other airline company for a direct flight (we are already fed up of several requests)from my destination here in KSA.

Safe journey to me and all the future Kenjar passengers. This is the final wish from the foundation of my heart.

SEE THERE IS AEROBRIDGE AVAILABLE IN AIRPORT TO PROTECT PASSANGER FROM WHETHER CONDITION, STILL AIR INDIA IS USING ITS OLD STAIRS. ALL THE PASSENGERS ARE WET IN THE RAIN. ALL THE DUBAI PASSENGER SUFFER FROM FEVER AFTER THIS ACTION.IF THE RUNWAY MADE IT TO 15000 FEET I M NOT GOING TO LAND IN THIS AIRPORT.
