Tumakuru, Jan 25: The KSRTC divisional controller at Chikkamagaluru has imposed a penalty of Rs 1,000 on a KSRTC bus conductor who refused to accept a currency note of Rs 5 tendered by a passenger.

Somashekhar from Turuvekere in the district had boarded an Arasikere-Tiptur bus. He had handed over fare for his journey, but the conductor outright refused to accept Rs 5 currency note, even after the passenger said that he did not have the cash to replace this note. There was an exchange of strong words between the two. The conductor urged the senior citizen to disembark from the bus and took the bus to the police station.

The police asked the conductor to accept the currency note and sent the conductor away by instructing him not to harass the passengers. Hurt by the attitude of the conductor, Somashekhar complained to the KSRTC managing director. KSRTC had asked the divisional controller at Chikkamagaluru to act against the conductor, identified as Mahesh.

The divisional controller affected a cut of Rs 1,000 from Mahesh's salary in the form of penalty and warned him to behave decently with passengers. A letter was also written by the divisional controller to Somashekhar expressing regret for the harassment he faced.
