Mumbai: Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha holds awards programme

Mumbai, Jan 25: “It is necessary for everybody to realise that journalism is essential for society. It has the capacity to control society. Quality journalism can face challenges and solve problems in it. Therefore, journalists should be encouraged,” said MP of North Mumbai Loksabha constituency, Gopala C Shetty.

He was speaking as the chief guest in the second award programme held by Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha at Mogaveera Bhavan, Andheri west on Sunday morning.

Patrakartara Sangha president Rons Bantwal presided over the programme. Mogaveera Vyavastapaka Mandali Mumbai president K L Bangera was the guest of honour. Advisory committee member and selection committee president Dr Sunita M Shetty was present. Gopala Shetty presented K T Venugopal Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha national Madhyamashree award 2020 sponsored mainly by Vikas Venugopal family consisting of Rs 25,000 cash, award panel and a certificate to veteran Kannada journalist, former editor of Mogaveera monthly magazine G K Ramesh. Gopala Shetty also honoured Ramesh with a shawl, fruits and flowers and congratulated him.



Rons Bantwal said that journalists have to inevitably live in tension instead of pension. “There is a fear that journalism which is born to uplift the society is indulged in spoiling its health. It is necessary for media to work up to the trust of people if it has to remain strong. It should also be the responsibility of every journalist,” said Rons Bantwal in his presidential address.

Homage was paid to the recently departed well-wisher of the sangha, Billavara association Mumbai president and Bharath bank executive president late Jaya C Suvarna, member promoter of the sangha, late M B Kukian, former treasurer late Suresh Acharya, veteran journalist late Bannanje Govindacharya and all the other journalists who have passed away.

Mogaveera Mandali trustees Harish Putran, Laxman Sriyan, Devaraj Bangera, Mogaveera bank executive president Sandananda Kotian, Preeti Harish Sriyan, Mohan Marnad, advocate R G Shetty, Vasanth K Suvarna, G T Acharya, Sudhaker Karkera, Navin K Inna, S K Sunder, Dr Bharath Kumar Polipu, Omdas Kannangar, Patrakartara Sangha advisors Surendra A Poojary, Sudhaker Uchil, specially invited members advocate Vasanth Kalakote, Gopal Trasi, Savita S Shetty, executive committee members Vishwanath Poojary Niddodi and Jayanth K Suvarana were honoured with memento and flowers.

Patrakartara Sangha honorary treasurer Nagesh Poojary Elinje welcomed. Patrakartara Bhavana committee executive president Dr Shiva Moodigere gave a keynote address. Honorary chief secretary Ashok S Suvarna introduced the guests; Special invited member S Daya introduced the awardee. Joint treasurer Dr G P Kusuma spoke congratulating the awardee. Anita P Poojary Takode compered the programme. Honorary secretary Ravindra Shetty Talipady proposed the vote of thanks. Relatives and friends of G K Ramesh too congratulated the awardee. The programme concluded after the national anthem.
