Bengaluru: Assaulting home guards personnel - MLA Sowmya Reddy faces case

Bengaluru, Jan 23: On Friday January 22, a first information report (FIR) was lodged in Upparpet police station here against Congress MLA representing Jayanagar constituency, Sowmya Reddy. She has been charged with assaulting a woman home guards personnel during the 'Raj Bhavan Chalo' protest launched by the Congress to protest against the farm ammendment act two days back.

The first information report was registered on the basis of a complaint made by the affected lady staff. The MLA has been charged with assault and obstructing government servant from discharging duties.

The officials said that soon they will serve notice seeking Sowmya's presence for questioning. Video evidence of the assault is available. Many had charged Sowmya of highhandedness in her assault on the home guards member who tried to block her during the protest. Even though Sowmya alleged that she was pushed around, no video or photographic evidence of the same could be found, thie police said.
