'Separating health, medical education to hit vaccine drive': Minister Sudhakar

Bengaluru, Jan 23 (IANS): A miffed Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar on Friday said separating health and medical education departments would affect the vaccination drive in the state.

"Separating health and medical education ministries could weaken the state's vaccination effort, as 60 per cent of district hospitals are under the latter and the remaining under the former," Sudhakar told reporters a day after Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Thursday hived off both departments and allocated medical education to senior cabinet minister J.C. Madhuswamy.

Ironically, the Chief Minister merged both the departments in October 2020 and gave the health portfolio to Sudhakar, who has been a minister for medical education since he joined the government in February 2020, ostensibly, for better coordination of the fight against the raging Covid across the state.

B. Sriramulu, who was holding the health and family welfare portfolio, was made minister for Backward Classes Welfare, which was earlier with Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol.

Coincidentally, the Covid tally began to decline gradually since mid-October across the southern state under Sudhakar, a medical doctor by profession.

"If health and medical education departments are under a single command, the vaccination drive will be effective. I will prevail upon the Chief Minister not to separate the two ministries," asserted Sudhakar.

Sudhakar, who defected from the Congress and joined the ruling BJP, was re-elected from the Chikkaballapur assembly segment in December 2019 by-elections.

"Health and Medical Education departments are under one ministry in all state governments across the country except in Karnataka, where it was split for political reasons," reiterated Sudhakar.

As health and medical education departments were separate, coordination suffered at the peak of Covid pandemic in the state, Sudhakar recalled.

Hinting that the second wave of the pandemic may come to India belatedly, Sudhakar said the two departments have to work together to prevent the virus spread again and accelerate the vaccination drive at the same time.

"I don't know what he (Yediyurappa) has in his mind. If health and medical education departments don't coordinate, it will be difficult to face when the second wave of the pandemic hits us," said Sudhakar.

Though Yediyurappa on Friday reshuffled portfolios of some ministers who resented the departments allocated to them on Thursday, the medical education department was not taken away from Madhuswamy.

"It's the Chief Minister's domain to decide on portfolios. I can't tell what he should have done. I am not sticking to any portfolio. The two departments need to work together so that citizens get the vaccine," added Sudhakar.

We do not know or we might never know if this virus was natural or man made. The HIV virus is widely believed to be as a result of experiments by western nations in bio-terrorism. The plague in Surat city many years ago was also believed to be a product of bio-terrorism, as in natural plague inguinal lymph nodes are affected first and then the lungs ( as fleas bite on feet) but in Surat it was lungs that were affected directly. At that time I had written to WHO that the small-pox vaccine should be made available but I did not get a reply, US president Bush just before Iraq war got one specially manufactured and took the vaccine. We are vaccinated for small-pox but not the next generation. Corona is not very lethal but smallpox can cause innumerable deaths if used for bio-terorism ( though eradicated the virus is readily available in many labs in many countries, ) corona could be "prelims" before the "final " exam.I hope and I wish I am wrong..

this guy does not have the guts to fight and demand that portfolio with Yeddy..So he is taking the help of media and approaching through a noble way.

Dr Sudhakar is the only person in this nonsense ministry of Karnataka, who is cultured and speaks in parliamentary language. Rest all are thoroughly bred in goonda and cheddi schoools.

According to a news report a woman in Rajasthan tested positive for Covid 31 times in 5 months, which scientifically speaking is impossible. Covid appears to be the biggest worldwide scam. Even vaccination for polio has been postponed!!! It is time we forget Covid.

Exactly.. government n private hospitals made a lot of money in the name of covid. At the end common man was affected.
Even the covid vaccine is a scam.

Our bodies might have already developed immunity to the virus and nobody knows if the vaccine is effective. and there are several risks associated with the vaccine. Has any minister gone to a government booth and got themselves vaccinated, has the PM or Amit shah got themselves vaccinated in a government booth?

In India cows are safe and not humans.

Dotor, Ivermectin - wonder drug for humans also? recent article on natural news
    ...
But the benefits offered by ivermectin are not limited to only cattle and pets. Soon enough, researchers found that this anti-parasitic drug can do wonders for human health. For instance, ivermectin can improve nutrition as well as overall health and well-being. It is also an effective treatment for two disfiguring neglected tropical diseases, namely, onchocerciasis (river blindness) and lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis). These two diseases are caused by parasitic roundworms.

Recently, a series of studies on ivermectin reported another useful activity displayed by the drug. Australian researchers found that ivermectin exerts potent anti-viral effects against two viruses that cause life-threatening human diseases, namely, the human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) and the dengue virus (DENV). According to their report, which appeared in the Biochemical Journal, ivermectin can prevent infection by both viruses by inhibiting the transport of viral proteins to the nucleus of target cells — a process that’s critical to the life cycle of many RNA viruses.

Besides HIV-1 and DENV, ivermectin has also been found to limit infection by other viral pathogens, such as the West Nile virus, the Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus and the influenza virus. Because of these reports, Wagstaff and her team decided to test the activity of ivermectin against the Wuhan coronavirus. (Related: Melatonin therapy a promising coronavirus treatment – study.)

...Analysis and quantification of viral RNA harvested at different time points revealed that ivermectin reduced the amount of viral RNA present in the sample 24 hours after treatment. After 48 hours, the researchers found a 99.8 percent reduction in cell-associated viral RNA, indicating that the anti-parasitic drug can effectively kill the coronavirus...

I fully agree. What is true for Ivermectin ( which is widely prescribed at Nanavati Hospital Mumbai for a long time) is true for many drugs used for parasitic infestations.Pyrimethamine and Chloroquine also work for Covid and other viral infections. Chloroquine works by changing the pH of the cells and is effective if taken as a prophylactic, it is not useful in the late stages.HCQ and CQ are not approved as they can cause increase in the QT interval, but this will not occur in a prophylactic dose (taken once in 7 days, provided the patient does not have a pre-existing cardiac problem).
