92 countries post request for Made-in-India Covid vaccines

New Delhi, Jan 21 (IANS): Ninety-two countries have approached India for Covid-19 vaccines, bolstering New Delhi's credentials as the vaccine hub of the world.

Highly placed sources said that scores of countries are approaching India, as the word spreads that Indian vaccines are showing negligible side-effects, since the immunization drive in the country began on Saturday.

India is sending its domestically developed vaccines to several neighbouring countries including Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar.

In a letter to PM Modi on Tuesday, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of the Dominican Republic, has also requested for inoculation, signally that the demand for Indian jabs has acquired a transcontinental appeal. "As we enter 2021 and persevere in our fight against Covid-19, Dominica's population of 72,100 is in urgent need of enough doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. I, therefore, request, with great humility and respect, that you assist us by donating the doses we need to make our population safe (optimally 70,000 first and second doses)," wrote Skerrit.

In other parts of Latin America, Brazil, which has the second highest number of coronavirus cases in the world next only to the United States, has sent a special plane to pick up Indian vaccines from Pune.

A Brazilian plane is expected to fly the first 2 million doses of a Covid-19 vaccine purchased by the government's Fiocruz biomedical institute.

According to a Reuters report from Sao Paulo, Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello said the documentation is ready for bringing the AstraZeneca-Oxford University vaccine being produced at the Serum Institute of India.

Brazil's Anvisa has scheduled a meeting for next Sunday to decide on the emergency use of the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford as well as one by developed by China's Sinovac Biotec.

Meanwhile the Bolivian government had also signed a contract with India's Serum Institute for the supply of 5 million doses of AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine.

President Luis Arce said that combined with a recent deal to buy 5.2 million Sputnik V vaccine doses from Russia, Bolivia now expected to be able to inoculate all of its vaccinable population.

The sources said that in tune with Prime Minister Modi's message that India's vaccine approach are intended to heal humanity, India would not be averse to provide vaccines to Pakistan, as part of a drive to eliminate the virus globally.

And in the course of time if the Chinese vaccine does not work, India would not hesitate to supply jabs to Beijing as well. The sources pointed out that India's vaccine exports to China may go a long way in addressing India's adverse trade balance with the Middle Kingdom.

So far, China's vaccine has shown patchy results. For instance, after Thailand has discovered that the efficacy of the two million doses of the Chinese Sinovac Biotech Covid-19 vaccine, has dropped dramatically.

The Bangkok Post said that the Thai Ministry of Public Health has requested further information about the vaccine it has ordered from China following a report "it might not be as effective as first thought" even as it goes ahead with its plan to receive and administer the vaccine from Sinovac Biotech.

"We are asking for information directly from Sinovac, so we are waiting for their response to get all the facts," Supakit Sirilak, Thailand's Director-General of Medical Science Department, was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

Singapore too has confirmed that the vaccine developed by China's Sinovac Biotech will have to go through regulatory scrutiny and authorisation by the country's Health Sciences Authority (HSA) before being rolled out for the public.

"We will go through the data carefully when it comes, rather than depending on reported numbers. It's better to rely on official data that we receive from Sinovac itself," said Singapore's Health Minister Gan Kim Yong according to a report in The Straits Times.

A reputed medical journal "Lancet" has said that Covaxin of Bharat Biotech entirely developed and manufactured in India is safe and has generated a good immune response. Compare this with mRNA based vaccines e.g Pfizer/BioNtech which was developed and produced in US/Germany which has caused deaths and no consistent response, and also is costlier and difficult to preserve!!

The famous finger is there now to say India is sending vaccines to 92 countries.Sure ,these countries are not stabile enough to buy vaccines from other countries ,and they require a huge amount. These countries too are not in a stage to produce too .It requires Pharmacys .and roh material for medicines which is available in India and china.you require too ,labs and chemists ,pharmacists. So they asked India to send .Here producing cost is lower .so it is possible to do it.We can proudly say we do it.Second point is vaccines from India or UK ,china are need to be only in normal refrigators, where as vaccines from Pfizer,BioNtech need refrigators minus up -40 to transport.and costly.

Oxford University - AstraZeneca is not Indian vaccine... it is mass produced in India... since the salaries are low and Serum Institute has not invested on research and development of the vaccine, its price may be low compared to same UK vaccine produced in other countries...

Myanmar, Dominican republic, Nepal, Bolivia ... such countries are at the bottom rung of poor countries... such countries might prefer the so touted Indian (?) vaccine...

However 92 countries is fake ... if 92countries have confidence in India, India would be by now member of UN Permanent Council...

Made in India ..yes ..Is it researched and invented in India ? the type of indiscipline that we see in the people ,the required quality and deeper and broader awareness is lacking ...however Indians are talented and able to take on any challenge ..They need to shift their mind state from Consuming to critical thinking where they can contribute wealth creation and distribution by being non corrupt and self disciplined. I see this happening in 5 to 10 years from today.
There is no point in blaming the govt for each and every thing ..We should know that the govt is only a facilitator ..Its time That India moves from democracy to meritocracy.

Readers, the world is amazed as they watch the incredible scientific progress, India has achieved, leaving behind, even advanced nations !!! We are the fountainhead that produces more then 60 % of the world's Vaccines. We are global pharmaceutical leaders in Generic medicines...at the lowest prices !!! The citizens are dismayed, horrified, as haters and baiters deliberately targeted and insulted our scientists and technocrats, even claimed its use would cause impotency, they did it deliberately to score brownie political points... The real target was to defame PM Modiji, hoping the assault would weaken his government... India does not require external enemies, when there are treacherous, poisonous brood of Vipers in our own backyards !!!

More than 12,400 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Israel after getting inoculated by the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine, including 69 people who had taken their second jab.

Israel's health ministry tested 189,000 people after they vaccinated by Pfizer's vaccine and 6.6 per cent of the people still tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier, Nachman Ash, national coordinator on the pandemic had said that Pfizer's vaccine was "less effective than we had thought".

Israel launched a vaccination drive on December 19 with a focus on the elderly, those with risky medical conditions and some emergency workers. More than a quarter of its citizens have now received the Pfizer Inc. vaccine, health officials say.

About a quarter of Israelis have received their first vaccine shot and 3.5 per cent already got their second dose.

Is it because the vaccines produced in india are comparatively cheaper as compared to pfizer and moderna? Many countries such as latin america , are not robust economies, so they are not able to purchase doses of Pfizer. Im just assuming it to be this way.

If the report about India-made vaccine is correct, even Western countries like Canada and the US should look for a more secure supply source rather than being at the mercy of Pfizer which is dragging its feet in sending steady supplies as contracted and promised, keeping countries to halt vaccination again and again. May be their pride hurts.
