Sullia: Illegal timber trade - Forest department officials arrest GP member, two others

Sullia, Jan 20: Forest department officials arrested three people including a Jalsur gram panchayat (GP) member in connection with the illegally transporting wooden logs at Doddahitlu in Amaramudnoor village in the limits of Jalsur gram panchayat, Sullia.

The arrested are Jalsur gram panchayat member Abdul Majid Naduvadka, Mohammed Soyab Delampady and Abhilash Gowda Arakalagudu. It is said that the accused had chopped trees and stored the logs at Doddahitlu in Amaramudnoor village.

Panja zonal forest officials seized wooden logs and a truck, JCB and Bolero Jeep from the accused.

Forest officials have seized 27 wooden logs and one lorry from Karnataka-Kerala border.

    Forest officials take bribe transporting even firewood. For transporting timber there is special negotiation. We don't condone illegal trading but our forests are getting depleted with the active participation by those suppose to protect it.
