Bantwal, Jan 15: "We have plans to construct ten lac houses for the landless as per the dream of Prime Minister Modi," said minister of housing, Somanna.

Somanna addressed a gathering of reporters after participating in Narikombu Brahmakalashotsava programme at Veerabhandra temple hall. "The construction will be monitored at each stage so that there are no lapses.

"The government has bought 3,560-acre land to allot to the poor. There is an intention to implement the housing scheme in all the 224 constituencies. Rs 800 crore that is needed for the purpose will be included in the next budget.

"The construction of houses is in various stages. 97 thousand sites will be provided before June. The decision is historic. There are slums on more than 8,500 acre of land in 2,400 slum areas. Those were being used for vote banks in the past. Those will be made a permanent project, issuing property rights to the dwellers.

"Houses will be allotted at the rate of 50 per village, considering the creativity and concern toward the poor of Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik.

Though minister Somanna wanted to visit former minister Janardhan Poojary, the visit was cancelled at the last minute as Poojary is not residing in his house at Bantwal. Minister Somanna recollected his rapport with Kalladka Dr Prabhakar Bhat saying that Dr Bhat was his guide for the last 40 years.
