Vijayapura, Dec 22: In a proud moment for the state, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Vijayapura division has been acknowledged as a unit that has saved the highest energy (diesel) in the entire country. The Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) has judged the unit as the best in the country as far as conservation of fuel is concerned.

Northeast Karnataka Road Transport Corporation has bagged this award. Out of this unit, offices in Vijayapura divisional office have contributed immensely towards getting this rare honour.

Three depots in Vijayapura district have been hailed for getting high mileage by using minimum fuel. Therefore this unit has bagged first, second and third prizes.

Vijayapura KSRTC manager Narayanappa Kurubara, said that the unit was in loss due to coronavirus pandemic since many months and in November it recovered to earn Rs 19.17 crore revenue. The per kilometre income which was Rs 24.13 during the lockdown period, has now gone up to Rs 31.20 per kilometre, he explained.
