Udupi, Nov 28: A deep sea boat from Malpe which was conducting fishing operations near the Goa-Maharashtra border, drowned on Thursday November 27. All the seven fishermen aboard have been rescued, while the boat, fish stock, nets etc totally valued at Rs 65 lac, drowned.

The boat titled 'Mathura’, belonging to Taranath Kunder from Hanuman Nagar Malpe, had sailed off on November 17 for deep sea fishing. On November 26 afternoon, the boat was undertaking fishing operation near the Goa-Maharashtra border at around 12.30 pm, when some unidentified object hit the bottom of the boat all of a sudden. The boat's hull broke, and sea water started gushing into the boat through the storage area.

People in a boat named Mahoor, who were undertaking fishing nearby, rushed to help the fishermen in peril. They rescued the fishermen and also tried to pull the boat to the shore. But as water had entered the boat, it sank late in the night. All the seven fishermen are being brought back to Malpe through the Mahoor boat.

It is said that the loss including the cost of the boat, net, diesel, fish caught etc has been estimated at around Rs 65 lac in this incident.
