Udupi: Devotees exult as three-day Laksha Deepotsava begins

Udupi, Nov 28: In an environment the clouds of corona concern, thousands of devotees happily took part in the three-day Teppotsava and Laksha Deepotsava festivities which began at Sri Krishna Mutt here on the morning of Uthana Dwadashi, Friday November 27.

On Friday November 27 morning, Paryaya Admaru Math Sr Ishapriya Theertha Swamiji offered puja to Tulsi plant. In the evening, the senior and junior heads of different Maths joined together at the car street here, where they placed the earthen diyas on the decorated pedestals and set the Laksha Deepotsava, the festival of lights, moving. At the evening festival, Swamijis of six Maths came together to offer puja to Lord Krishna and offer Arghya (libation) in honour of the Lord.

Thousands of devotees who had congregated in and around the car street felt a sense of fulfilment by lighting the diyas filled with oil which were tastefully arranged around the area.

The pond of Sri Krishna Math, Madhwa Sarovar, was decorated with lights. The Utsava Murty of the Lord was kept in the decorated raft and taken around the pond, duly accompanied by musical instruments. Thereafter, Palimaru junior Swamiji, Sri Vidyarajeshwara Theeertha, placed the Utsava Murthy in the chariot following which Maha Puja was offered to the Lord. The devotees, who were chanting the name of the Lord and hailing the Almighty through slogans, pulled the chariot around the car street.

Not only the car street, but also other important streets in the city were decorated with diyas, and people burst crackers. Udupi will witness beautiful lamp decoration and special pujas for three days. Thousands of devotees who came from far off places took in the feeling of devotion and accomplishment at the festival.

Except Sri Vishwa Vallabha Theertha Swamiji of Sode Math and Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puthige Math, all the other Swamijis took part in the festival. Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Admaru Math, Paryaya Sri Ishapriya theertha Swamiji, Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji of Krishnapur Math, Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha Swamiji of Palimaru Math, Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math, Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Math and junior Swamiji of Palimaru Math, Sri Vidyarajeshwara Theertha Swamiji, participated in the festival.

    I do not have any issue of Laksha deepotsava happening. But many swamiji;s are without masks. I have heard that masks will never help Covid-19 transmitting. But at least they have to show the people that they are protecting themselves and people. Fine for not wearing masks is only for poor people who can to afford to buy......!!!!???????
