Udupi, Nov 26: Puttige seer Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji has opined to name Mangaluru International Airport after Jagadguru Madhvacharya.

"Politicians are stressing upon making India a 'Vishwa Guru', Jagadguru Sri Madhvacharya is regarded as Vishwa Guru and he has established mutts in Udupi and Sringeri. It would be ideal to name Mangaluru International Airport after Sri Madhvacharya. As there is an airport in Ayodhya named after Lord Shri Ram, South India is recognized as being home to several acharyas and gurus and to name an airport in South India after Sri Madhvacharya will serve as a homage to him," a press release by the Swamiji stated.

Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji also asked the concerned officials to look into the matter and take required steps.

"India can be a world leader if it follows the spiritual principles it was built on. It would be the right choice to name the other airports also by the names of other spiritual leaders like Sri Ramanujacharya, Basavanna and others. Post the corona pandemic the world needs more and more spiritual movements. The government should also give more importance to spiritual things," he opined.

Why suddenly the present ruling authorities are after changing names. Surely that they want to change the real historical names. What happens if it remains as Mangaluru International airport. When they make a new airport anywhere nearby let them reserve these illogical names

We can in fact have many more Airports in Mangalore because many names are pouring in. All those who are now talking about naming, renaming, multiple naming, will never ever talk about any developments for our city.
Like what can be done to expand our Airport runway to attract more airlines with bigger air crafts? Can Mangalore Airport become more Cargo friendly or even can we still prevent Corona, what can be done to our School, college students who are in the fear of loosing an academical year, can we have better roads and footpath etc. Anything that is connected with improving our city's infrastructure ? I do not think so.
Religious Leaders of all faiths should stick to their religious practices and not interfere with Administration and Politics, unless invited. I do know there are very few intellectual Religious Leaders in our society, but then they do not opine about all these issues.
God save our country from drifting away from it's main focus. Save our Political Leaders who only think about stirring political intolerance and Religion based Politics.

What's wrong with the name Mangaluru ? Named after deity Mangala Devi. Is Mangala Devi any less holy than other names people are suggesting? Or there is caste and politics in play?.
The name Mangalore is mentioned in Ptolemy's (Greek historian and cartographer) over 2000 years ago. Its older than Mumbai/Bombay (30 0 years) , Bangalore (300 years) , Delhi (100 years) Calcutta (300 years) Chennai/Madras (300 years) Hyderabad (300 years). Foreigners have recognized the beauty of name Mangalore there are two Mangalore s in Australia one also with an aerodrome , there is a Mangalore in Uttarakand India.
Mangalore is unique among the cities in the world with different names from different communities.

Karavali people known for their intelligence because of eating fish mainly Boothai. ( Sardine). This fish is good for health too. This fish is affordable to common man. This way we can make this fish famous and guve some well deserved respect. Also boothai means mother nature.

Everyone want to keep their own Names for mangalore Airport. There are more than 100 in lists have come to existence. So need not mess with anything , the last option for Mangalore Airport is Appannana Katte International Airport or Hampanakatte Airport would be appropriate or Keladi Chennamma Airport.

More than naming the airport, there should be a demand to extend the current main runway by another 2500 feet based on concrete pillars. There is an airport in Portugal which had its runway extended by over 3000 feet with 230 feet tall concrete pillars. They had created about 180 pillars. In the case of Mangaluru airport, with newer technologies and methods, it is possible to have fewer number of concrete pillars. Railways have been building bridges on the north east with very tall concrete pillars. We have engineers now who can create those structures now. Adani group is also involved with construction and so, they can build it instead of giving contract to some other company. Out of 2500 feet addition, not all can be used since there is need to install engineered materials arresting system at both ends of the runway for safety. The approach lights can also rest on single line pillars separated from the runway. Because of poor visibility during rainy season, need at least CATII landing system. If these projects are too expensive, then, better to build a new airport near Niddodi or other places where there is sufficient government land.

People,
We need to concentrate on making 2 hubs for International travel. One is New Delhi & other is Bengaluru as both are at the center of North & South India with connecting budget airlines from surrounding regions serving even International travelers. Here too domestic travel mainly is by budget airline because it's sustainable. Train travel connecting the whole country here is a bit difficult because US is so vast. Train travel is possible in India with doubling, electrification & strengthening of tracks (for comfortable journey). They have already execucuted Bengaluru to Mysuru.
Mumbai can be an additional air travel hub. Already Bengaluru to San Franscisco Air India is planned starting from Jan 2021. We need to start more such direct flights & domestically we need to encourage more budget airlines & train travel. This makes us Aatmanirbhar sustainable India.

Everyone wants rename mangalore airport..... there is arthar road in mumbai and they named as...sane guruji road..... the name so lengthy and unknown who is sane guruji. People call still call Arthur road jail etc. After even 50 years renaming the road is called arther road......even if they change the people will remember as mangalore airport.
