UAE stops visas to Pakistan, 12 other countries on security concerns

Abu Dhabi, Nov 26 (IANS): The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has stopped issuing new visas to citizens of 13 mostly Muslim-majority countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Syria and Somalia, among others.

An immigration document said that applications for new employment and visit visas have been suspended until further notice for nationals outside the UAE from countries including Afghanistan, Libya and Yemen.

The visa ban also applies to citizens of Algeria, Kenya, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan and Tunisia, the document said. It is not clear if there are any exceptions to the ban, Al Jazeera reported.

The report said that a source briefed on the matter said the UAE has temporarily stopped issuing new visas to Afghans, Pakistanis, and citizens of several other countries over security concerns.

The source did not say what those concerns are but said the visa ban is expected to last for a short period.

Last week, Pakistan's foreign ministry had said that the UAE had stopped processing new visas for its citizens and those from some other countries.

Islamabad said it is seeking information from the UAE on the reason for the suspension but that it thought it is related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Great decision by UAE. All Arab countries will ban ideology unsecular and reform the country and make thier beleif system modern and inclusive. I am thinking very positive way that they will open citizenship for people to migrate and settle in their country which will make them prosperous like west.

No really. Pakistan Christian and Hindus are tortured by fanatics just because of thier belief. Why anyone has to blame.e them. Infact Pakistan has to return the land back to India. It belongs to India.

I was in UAE for 45 years...... when they do anything..... they will see not religion, caste or creed..... their rules are only for the betterment of all residents.
Only some countries only make rule which will benefit their religion, caste or creed.

Shan, Udupi. I fully agree with your comments. There is no doubt about it. I too worked in Dubai (UAE) for several years and then migrated to New York, USA with my wife, daughter, and son. I had no problems there and I loved there. I visit even now at least once a year with my family.

Like you, me too worked in UAE (also in Oman, Qatar and Saudi)
    Never felt discriminated anywhere there...

On Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha get together, they used to order special vegetarian lunch for me & few other Hindus proactively (thinking I could be a vegetarian, but I am not). I must appreciate the concerns being shown by them genuinely.

If it was for something related to corona pandemic as claimed by Pakistan, UAE would have banned Indians in the first place as the number of cases in India is much more than in Pakistan!

A good move , But gen people form 12 these nations prefer going to any nation at that is non-islamic as they are happy there. Once they settle down, they show their true colours of changing the host country to the country they came from. Every migrant destination is in chaos.
