Gangavarapu takes early lead at Eagleton Champions golf

Bengaluru, Nov 25 (IANS): Tej Gangavarapu overcame an ominous start to fight the gusty winds and sign off with a level par card of 72 to take a one-shot lead over current national champion Aryan Roopa Anand and Ananjan Kaushik in the Teen Boys and Amateur (Combined category) at the end of the first round of the Eagleton Champions Golf Tournament here on Wednesday.

In the Teen Girls and Amateur Category, Sneha Sharan and Vidhatri Urs with an identical card of 1-over par 73 took the joint honours at the top. Winner of the first leg Avani Prashanth was three behind lie third at the Eagleton Golf Resort.

Hyderabadi Gangavarapu, who trains with Tarun Sardesai at the TSG Academy, began with a double bogey but recovered a birdie on the fourth and an eagle on the seventh. In between had two more bogeys to take the turn at 1-over. His back nine was marked with two birdies and bogey which nullified the deficit of the front nine.
