Mangaluru: Man found defaming divorced wife through anonymous letters jailed

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 24: The state high court which heard a defamation suit filed by a lady against her divorced husband concluded that he was guilty. The person, Kochu Shetty, a retired engineer of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL), has been handed down one year's imprisonment.

Kochu Shetty, a native of Elinje in the city had worked in Mangaluru and Puttur offices of KPTCL. His wife was employed in a bank. It is said that even after divorce, Kochu Shetty continued to harass his former wife. He used to write letters in different names containing false information which were meant to undermine her reputation and character. He also used to send open letters in the address of the bank containing such concocted stories which could be read by anyone who came across them.

The divorced lady who found that these letters contained the handwriting of her former husband, sent him lawyer's notice warning him of legal action, but Shetty continued to mail such letters. Frustrated by this, she filed a defamation suit in the court of the magistrate here. He argued in the court that the handwriting in the letters was not his. The letters were sent to the forensic science laboratory at Bengaluru. Experts who examined these letters provided report certifying that the handwriting in the letters was of Kochu Shetty. Based on this report, the court sent him to jail for a year.

Kochi Shetty filed an appeal in the high court against this judgement. He argued that it was wrong to entirely base the judgement on the reports of the handwriting experts. He also said that there was no proof that the letters had caused infamy of his former wife. The high court dismissed these arguments. It said that damaging the reputation of women is a serious offence punishable with imprisonment. It upheld the judgement of the Mangaluru court and asked the court of the magistrate to arrest Kochu and put him behind the bars immediately.

If you do not want your wife to divorce you, just do this:

When your wife comes to you with a problem, she does not want a solution, but your attention. If you give the solution, you are in trouble, yes, you are really in trouble.

What she wants is, you have to listen attentively to what she says. Then what you have to do is, just act as if you do not know the solution. She knows the solution. Listen fully to her solution when she explains. Then say, "yes, yes really you are genius, I never knew this". Whenever problem comes, just do like this, you will never be in trouble with her.

    @ Bharatha...,

    Let me quote your words." ....he is a sick person",. More than that he is a Hindu by name...., How can the court can punish a sick person...., He could have estrange his legally wedded wife... and become a swayam sevaka....,to build nation;

One more life line may be a counselling session by- "self proclaimed nationalist organisation, Durga vahini etc.,"

Else.. Chai & pakoda vending is another contribution to the economy...,

Such people who do this type of defaming their previous Partner in public ,letters ,fotos of private life are really sick in mind.A man who has some pride ,and manners would never do this even after divorse.Such people should be be arrested immediately.and see that harm no more .Not only one year but for life long.I am sure he is back after ya year will continue the same and might even harm to her life .Be careful .He must be jealous of his wife now.

    Dear Kochu Shetty,

Moving forward, if anybody want to write such letters to their ex-wives please use your left hand to write such letters so hand writing experts cannot give a valued opinion....

Meanwhile Kochu....you can file an appeal in Division bench of High Court or file Special leave petition to Supreme Court,,, if you have money opportunities are infinite....

    ...Tak...Takk...

In a company in Mumbai, one worker was murdered while travelling. Everyone in the company suspected that it was masterminded by the Labour Union President,

The personnel manager of the company wrote a letter in his handwriting to the commissioner of police saying the the murder was a part of union rivalry and he suspected the Labour Union President was behind it. After interrogation, police could not solve the murder.

Union Leader in the meantime came to know somebody had written a letter to Commissioner. Everyone knows how corrupt police are. Union Leader tried to get the copy of that letter and after getting, it was confirmed that the letter was written by personal manager. Union demanded his resignation and top management also told him to go and he had to resign from the post.
