NDA triumphs in Bihar, BJP emerges victorious in MP, UP, Karnataka bypolls

Updated

New Delhi, Nov 10: The Bharatiya Janata Party has had a rather an eventful time in the elections which took place across the country on Tuesday, November 10. The NDA has returned to power in Bihar, though by the slimmest of margins, as results on the Election Commission site indicated that it crossed the majority mark of 122 seats in the 243-member house as the NDA comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal United, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) winning 125 seats in all.

The performance of the party in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh has been tremendous given it took place at a time when the party had to prove themselves amid the prevailing situation brought on by the pandemic. The results for the 243 assembly seats in Bihar, showcased the Mahagathbandhan giving a tough fight to the National Democratic Alliance. However, the BJP managed to sail through the bypoll elections in other states.

In Karnataka, the BJP won the by-elections held for the Rajarajeshwari Nagar (RR Nagar) in Bengaluru and Sira in Tumakuru. The RR Nagar BJP candidate Munirathna won by a margin of 57,672 votes, defeating Congress candidate H Kusuma and JD(S) candidate V Krishnamurthy. In Sira assembly constituency, BJP's Dr C M Rajesh Gowda won the elections by 12,949 votes against Congress candidate T B Jayachandra and JD(S) candidate Ammajamma B.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP won six of the seven seats in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly by-elections, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) secured one seat in the state. According to Election Commission, the BJP won Tundla, Bangermau, Ghatampur, Deoria, Naugawan Sadat, and Bulandshahr seats, while Samajwadi Party won Malhani seat.

In Madhya Pradesh polls for the 28 constituencies the BJP has won 19 seats. Meanwhile, the Congress has won nine seats.

Bihar Assembly election results on Tuesday, November 10 changed the predictions made earlier during the exit polls, which claimed downright victory for the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan).

Karnataka bypoll: (2 seats)

BJP - 2

Congress - 0

JD(S) - 0

Bihar: (Total seats 243)

National Democratic Alliance (NDA) - 125

Mahagathbandhan - 110

LJP - 1

Others - 7

Madhya Pradesh bypoll: (28 seats)

BJP - 19

Congress - 9

Uttar Pradesh bypoll: (7 seats)

BJP - 6

SP - 1

Earlier report

The results of the Bihar Assembly elections and bypolls held for 28 seats in Madhya Pradesh are all set to be declared on Tuesday November10.

The voting for the 243-member Bihar Assembly started on October 28 in three phases. The majority mark is 122.

The results will be declared on November 10.

The RJD-led Mahagathbandhan is headed for a clean win at the Bihar Assembly elections 2020, said at least two exit polls. It could also be a tight race between the NDA and the Opposition alliance with the latter having an edge in Bihar. Some exit polls are also indicating a hung house. While none of the polls give LJP significant numbers, in case of a hung Assembly, Chirag Paswan could become crucial for either alliance to come to power.

Meanwhile, bye-elections were held on 28 seats in Madhya Pradesh on November 3. The results will be declared on November 10.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is projected to win 16 to 18 seats, while the Congress party will have to settle with just 11 seats in the Madhya Pradesh by-elections, according to the exit polls.

Every opposition party should keep miles distance from Rahul Gandhi and company else they would meet the same fate what Akhilesh, Kumaraswamy & Tejaswi Yadav got. Democracy wins at the end . Minimal difference in number of seats between the contesting Groups is rather healthy in the democratic process. Another takeaway is that with age on his side, Rahul has time to slowly but surely to do a decent burial to Cong(I).

There's no proper leader in Congress. If anyone raises issues, he or she is thrown out of the party or isolated. The reason for BJP still going strong is due to inefficiency of the INC.

USA uses a complex system of electronic voting and has not dumped electronic voting. Different States have different systems of voting in USA. Only Germany and Netherlands have discontinued it after initial trial due to public concerns not necessarily due to its misuse. United Kingdom and Ireland have not introduced them for silmilar concerns. Manual paper ballot voting is prone to large scale rigging, ballot box snatching, intimidation of polling officers especially in India. Those of us who are old enough to witness the voting in the 1970s in West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh can never think of going back to those days when our votes had already been cast before we reached the voting centre. So, stop moning about EVM!

Exactly! Congress leaders should realize their anti-Modi and anti-BJP rhetoric will not work anymore. In the recent past there had been unwarranted opposition, criticism and suspicion of Government’s actions against Pakistan like Surgical strikes and Balakot air strikes, measures like abolition of triple talaq, especially removal of Art. 370 which was best in national interest. The Congress has unsuccessfully misled people on CAA which is not concerned with citizens of the country. It’s time for Congress to change their policy of minority appeasement and come out with their own vision of national development.

Modiji is an able and admirable leader. But the current government is not upto the mark. The ministers and the ministries have no idea what to do. The finance ministry is pathetic.
If Congress rejuvenates itself with Gulam Nabi Azad, Kapil Sibal, manish Tiwari, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Shashi Taroor, Sachin Pilot  etc etc, it can give us a better government. It would be better because it does not have a communal agenda like BJP.Of course it has to shed that minority appeasement tactics completely.

congress already lead in 24 seat - will win

67 seats have margin of less than 1000 votes - congress win all 67
20 seats have margin of less than 500 votes. - congress will win all 20

means congress will win 111 seat all together and short fall of 13 seat to form govt alone?

bhai congress ko uthna candidate bhi nahe mila hai contest karne ko

I've been commenting on this forum that Tejashvi made the cardinal sin of giving 70 seats to CONgress. Not only they did not have enough winning candidates, they've pulled down winning strike rate of RJD. Out of 70, CONgress is leading in 18. In UP too, they did same thing to Akhilesh. Out of the 104 seats allotted to CONgress by SP, they could win only 8. Please note that in the North India COW belt, CONgress is a spent force. This situation was bound to happen.
