Mysuru, Oct 26: Chief minister B S Yeddiyurappa, who arrived in Mysuru to participate in the Vijayadashami programme of the world-famous Dasara festival, visited the Suttur Mutt and obtained the blessings of Sri Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamy on Monday.

Mysuru district in-charge minister S T Somashekar, Ramadas, MLA, deputy commissioner, Rohini Sinduri accompanied the chief minister.

The chief minister is participating in the 410th year Dasara finale of the Vijayadashami in the simple and scaled-down manner after making a floral offering to goddess Chamundeshwari astride the caparisoned elephant Abhimanyu.

In normal times, the victory procession is staged from the Mysuru palace in the city centre to Bannimantap grounds through the 5 km route for the torchlight parade in the night as a culmination of the grand finale, watched by lac of people, including visitors and tourists from across the country and overseas.

The royal Wadiyar family, including the titular head, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja, queen mother Pramoda Devi, who adopted him as the scion, and princess Trishkiha Kumari will be among the 300 dignitaries who will witness the grand finale in the palace grounds.

The 10-day fest began at the Chamundeshwari temple on October 17 atop the hill on the city's outskirts, with Bengaluru-based Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, director Dr C N Manjunath inaugurating it in the presence of the chief minister and other dignitaries by invoking the deity for blessings.

Owing to the restrictions, traditional and cultural events during the 10-day fiesta like children's Dasara, women's Dasara, film festival, exhibition, food fest and folk dances and music and wrestling bouts have been cancelled this time.
