Bengaluru: DK Shivakumar chides government for neglecting welfare of drivers

Bengaluru, Oct 26: "The state government had announced compensation to 7.75 lac drivers but the compensation has reached only ten percent of eligible people so far. The government is totally callous about the sufferings of other drivers," commented Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, D K Shivakumar.

He was speaking after welcoming president of Ola, Uber Taxi Drivers Association president, Tanveer Pasha and Jai Bharath Auto Drivers Association president, Chandru, and a large crowd of their supporters into the Congress party.

Shivakumar said that the government had announced that it would disburse 5,000 each to 7.75 lac drivers but pointed out that there are 32 lac licenced drivers in the state. He wanted to know from the government what it had done for the drivers.

Shivakumar said that his party has decided to fight to get the compensation released to all the drivers. He also said that under instructions from the party leader Oscar Fernandes, a drivers' unit is being started within the Congress.
