Andhra school head held for taking bribe to issue certificates

Penugonda (Andhra Pradesh), Oct 23 (IANS): Andhra Pradesh's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials have arrested a village school headmaster for demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 to issue duplicate certificates to an old student, ACB officials said on Friday.

Surya Prakash, 46, once a student of Penugonda's ZNVR High School, approached school's headmaster J Srinivas for issuing duplicate certificates as he had lost his certificates sometime ago.

Srinivas allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from him to issue duplicate certificates. Taken aback, Prakash reported it to ACB officials, who laid a trap on Thursday.

"We caught Srinivas after videotaping him taking the bribe and seized Rs 10,000 from him," said the official.

He was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act and produced in Rajamundry special court and sent in remand.

Penugonda is 38 km northeast of Bhimavaram in West Godavari district.
