After 236 embrace Buddhism, police lodges FIR for promoting enmity

New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS): As 236 members of Valmiki community in Ghaziabad embraced Buddhism, the district police lodged an FIR against 'unidentified person' on charges of promoting enmity between various groups by spreading rumours on religious conversion, after a member of the same community approached the police with the allegations.

The complainant, Montu Chandel Valmiki, alleged the conversion as a criminal conspiracy fabricated in order to incite caste-based violence and promote enmity between different groups.

The police have lodged the FIR under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In the FIR, Chandel has claimed that the certificates of conversion do not contain name, date, address and registration numbers of the members who embraced Buddhism.

The development has come amid mounting anger over the Hathras case where a teenage girl from Valmiki community was allegedly raped and brutally assaulted by four upper-caste men in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras on September 14.

She succumbed to assault injuries at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi a fortnight later, which was followed by a hushed-up cremation, allegedly forced by the Hathras district administration.

The police have lodged the FIR under section 153-A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 505 (publishing or circulating any statement, rumour or report with intent to any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community) of IPC.

Superintendent of Police (city) II, Ghaziabad, Ghyanedra Singh, told IANS that the police are yet to start the investigation.

"We have lodged an FIR today based on the complaint received. The verification of the accusations levelled by the complainant where he alleged the absence of details mentioned on the certificates is yet to be made. Further investigation is underway," he stated.

The conversion was done on October 14 in the presence of Rajratan Ashok Rao Ambedkar, who is the great-grandson of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Later, Buddhist Society of India distributed certificates to the converted members.

Now where is your hero whom you hailed 'Sambhavani yuge yuge' in 2014 ? Who told you that Hinduism is heading towards extinction and that voting for BJP would revive it ?? Whom you prostrated as Yug-purush ?

Have you guys seen what your Yug-Purush did to Indian economy over the years ? Oh yes, vote for him. He will take you towards begging for a meal, not towards Ramrajya.

    Mr Bhakth,

Hinduism is a way of life. it is only tradition based. there is no strict code nor there is one particular book.

One can be an atheist and still be an Hindu. As there is no one book, Hinduism can be reformed.

The BJP is being supported not that they keep Hindusim on top of other religion but to thrawt religion with imposing tenets taking the space left by shrinking hinduism. Buddism is quite OK.

    Mr. Ganesh,

I respect your attempt to explain me, which I also know. What irks me, is there are 80% in India who just went with the tide, believing that Congress is anti-Hindu government, bent on converting the whole India into Muslim/Christianity and Hindus will be a minority. They believed that is so many crores stacked in Swiss banks, sufficient enough to distribute @15 Lakhs per Indian (no, I'm not saying he promised to distribute it but try to understand showing pearls to a beggar). Only to come to a condition to where the GDP went from 8.5% (of Congress time in 2014) to -35%, India became even poorer than Bangladesh.

These are the very people who came in bus loads to Nehru Maidan to chant Modi... Modi... Well, these are the very people who walked miles home, barefoot, whereas the same government has no record of how many of them died on the way, how many women delivered on the way and whether those tiny tots survived, or not.

Sorry, Ganesh, I don't intend to offend the religion Hindu but I'm at logger heads with those fake followers who don't know what their own religion teaches them. At those who run under the umbrella of fake 'Sambhavani Yuge Yuge avtars'

    Mr Deshbhkth,
As long as they dont choose dangerous cult of death & misogyny. everything would be ok. Buddism is an agnostic religion and everyone can join it.

That was the belief till BJP enacted CAA/NRC. Now I wonder what bill they will enact to treat this newly converted community.
