Riyadh: DM Najd clinches JF Super Cup 2020 trophy

Riyadh, Oct 22: Jam'iyyatul Falah, Riyadh unit organized JF Super Cup 2020 knock-out cricket tournament in association with MCA Riyadh under the sponsorship of Universal, City Flower, Black Cat and Uniformplus at Exit-18, Sulai MCA Grounds, Riyadh, from February 28.

As many as 16 teams took part in the tournament with the matches being held every Friday morning. Teams were divided into two groups. Preliminary rounds were played on February 28. The second round was played on March 06 and semi-finals and final were played on September 18, 2020, due to Covid-19 pandemic this event was on hold.

The first semifinal was played between Universal Riyadh Indian and DM Najd, wherein the latter won the toss and elected to field. Universal Riyadh Indian scored 70 runs in their allotted 10 overs (Sarfraz, 28 of 16 balls, was the main scorer) giving a target of 71 runs to win for DM Najd.

The match was won by DM Najd who reached the target in five overs with splendid batting by Rifaz scoring 51 runs in 16 balls and was declared man of the match for his match-winning innings.

Score Sheet: Universal Riyadh Indian (Sarfraz 28 runs of 16 balls - DM Najd bowling - Sadda – 2 wickets for 15 runs, Sultan 2 Overs 2 Runs one wicket, Nasru, Aziz and Ijjuruddin took 1 wickets each) DM Najd (Rifaz 51 runs of 16 balls - Universal Riyadh Indian bowling – Ashraf took 2 wickets.)

The second semifinal was played between Dheera Guys and Ground Star. The toss was won by Dheera Guys who selected batting. Dheer Guys scored 174 runs in their allotted 10 overs. Mohsin – 96 runs of 31 Balls, Ahmed – 38 runs of 13 balls and Ejaz– 22 runs of 6 balls were the main scorers. Shameem took 2 wickets while Iyaz took 1 wicket for Ground Star.

The target set for Ground Star was 175 runs in 10 overs. Ground Star failed to reach the target and could score only 109 runs in their allotted 10 overs. Dheera Guys won by 66 runs. Mohsin of Dheera Guys was declared the Man of the Match for his 96 runs in 31 balls.

The final was played between Dheera Guys and DM Najd. The toss was won by Dheera Guys and selected to bat. Dheera Guys started their innings by losing 3 quick wickets of Iyjaz, Ahmed and Mohsin. Dheer Guys lost their best player Mohsin in first over just scoring 7 runs. Only Prasant and Badruddin reached double figure 16 and 15 runs to make the total runs 51 in their allotted 10 overs. DM Najd bowler Sadda took 3 wickets on his first over.

In reply, DM Najd lost their opener player in first over. The subject was left with Naushad and Mudassir the backbone of DM Najd. A partnership built between the two players and reach the score very easily just on 5 overs. Prashant took 1 wickets for 14 runs. DM Najd bowler Sadda took 5 wickets for 20 runs and was declared Man of the Match.

After the final match, the prize distribution ceremony was held. Nazeer Ahmed (Former president of JF Riyadh) inaugurated the ceremony, in the presence of the chief guest Abdul Azeez (President of DKMO Riyadh), Satheesh Amin (Treasurer of MCA Riyadh), GK Shaikh (Advisor of JF Riyadh) and Ashfaque (President of JF Riyadh).

Best Player of the Tournament – Mohsin – Dheera Guys (137 Runs – 42 Balls)

Nazeer Ahmed thanked all the participating teams for their cooperation and support to complete the tournament in the best sporting way and for the good cause He also thanked all the Umpires: Jayanna, Bhaskar, Azeez and Ismail and executive committee members of JF Riyadh who strived hard for the success of the tournament.
