Puttur, Oct 21: The police here have asked the owners of two vehicles which were provided insurance cover through fake policies, to be present before them for questioning. However, no case has been registered so far against the RTO middleman who provided fake policy to them and has confessed to the crime, it is gathered.

The two vehicles' owners, Abdul Khader from Narimogaru and Vishwanath D'Souza, who had submitted fake policy documents for transfer of ownership of vehicles have been asked to be present before the investigating officer. They were summoned on the basis of complaint filed by the Puttur branch manager of United India Insurance Company Ltd. The company had filed a complaint on October 20. The officials also reportedly informed MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor about this issue.

Ashfaq, who provided fake policies to Abdul Khader and Vishwanath has not been taken into custody. When the policemen questioned him on October 15, Ashfaq had accepted to the wrongdoing but no case was registered against him. If the police register a suo moto case against him and subject him to interrogation, the source of the fake insurance racket can be revealed.

In a release, the regional transport officer here has advised the owners of vehicles to ensure either when getting insurance, or renewing it to ensure that the insurance details are updated in the databases of the insurance companies concerned.
