Udupi: Dept of Reproductive Medicine and Surgery to commence on Oct 1 at Kasturba Hospital Manipal

Udupi, Sep 30: Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital Manipal, announced, "With effective from October 1, the department of Reproductive Medicine and Surgery will function at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. This had been started as per the approval of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE).

Dr Pratap Kumar N will head the department and it will be functional on all weekdays between 8.30 am to 4.00 pm."

Dr Pratap Kumar N, professor and head of the department of Reproductive Medicine said, “Manipal Assisted Reproduction Centre (MARC) has been elevated to department status - Department of Reproductive Medicine and Surgery. This department will continue to work with the following facilities- Induction of Ovulation, Transvaginal Sonographic Procedures, Intrauterine insemination, In vitro fertilization with Embryo Transfer (IVF-ET) Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), Laser Assisted Hatching, Vasal/Epididymal & Testicular Sperm Extraction (MESA/TESA), Egg /Sperm Donation Programme, Embryo and Semen Banking, Computer-Aided Sperm Analysis (CASA), Sperm DNA damage evaluation, detection of Y Chromosome microdeletion, Laparoscopic & Hysteroscopic procedures, Comprehensive Male Infertility Evaluation and Treatment and Surrogacy."

Dr Sharath K Rao, dean of KMC wished the department and said that with the new status they can do more research activities which in turn will help society.
