Bengaluru: 'Unsure if real or publicity stunt' - Kumaraswamy on Congress' no-confidence motion

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SHP)

Bengaluru, Sep 25: JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Friday September 25 claimed that he was unsure whether the no-confidence motion by Congress against the B S Yediyurappa government was a 'publicity stunt' or real and further stated that he was not consulted regarding the same.

However, Kumaraswamy maintained that he would have passed the no-confidence motion if Congress had approached him.

"Congress leaders, even to this moment, have not discussed the no-confidence motion with us. I do not know how serious they are about this no-confidence motion. If they were serious, maybe they would have discussed with us. I cannot tell if it is for real or if it is just a publicity stunt," the former CM said.

The former chief minister also hinted that the current atmosphere in the state was not conducive to function properly. Responding to a question on whether he trusts the BJP government, Kumaraswamy said, "My trust is not important. What is important is the people’s trust. But I will say that there’s no proper atmosphere for any issue that we want to raise.”

Earlier on Thursday, the Congress moved a notice for a no-confidence motion to be taken up against the Yediyurappa-led government in the state. Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri admitted the notice, along with saying that the date and time for discussion will be provided by Saturday.

Taking a dig at Siddaramaiah's move, revenue minister R Ashoka said, "You don’t have the numbers. Your own people have joined us and many more legislators from Congress will join the BJP."

In the 225-member Assembly, the ruling BJP has 116 members, Congress 67, JD(S) 33, BSP one, two Independents, one nominated member and the Speaker (who has a casting vote in case of a tie). Four seats -- Sira, Basavakalyan, Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Maski are vacant.
