Union Education Ministry is offering support for online gambling

Sep 20, 2020

Even though the New Education Policy (NEP) has been lauded by so many people, one of the measures hasn’t received approval from the public. This measure is the support for online gaming offered by the Union Education Ministry. The Ministry has also made it known that it is an attempt to encourage more employment opportunities in the digital space.

It was also confirmed by the Ministry that a hackathon for online games will be organized at the national level to show the talents of students in India’s Higher Institutions.

With the continued exponential growth of online gamers in every corner of the nation and the increase in domestic businesses/players and Indian made games, this news brings excitement to many Industry leaders.

The Regional Director of online teaching platform, Onvu Learning, Abhishek Kumar, said; “Online gaming courses shall generate huge employment opportunities for our students. The challenge for the government shall be in imparting skill sets in specific computer languages and multimedia technology, though with proper training our students have the potential to leverage it and change the landscape of the online gaming industry. The recent decision of the Education Ministry in organizing a Hackathon on Online Games shall also help bring out the talent in our country.”

The Chief Operating Officer, Paytm First Games, Sudhanshu Gupta also praised the Ministry’s support for online gaming. “We welcome the Education Ministry’s plan to support students aspiring to pursue online gaming and developing as a viable career choice.

The government’s support would give this industry a much-needed boost and make it easier for us to find and recruit apt talent. We believe India can become the hub of online gaming in the world if given the right opportunities and the chance to grow. We fully endorse the government’s initiative and would help to take this further in every possible way.” He said.

The CEO and Founder of PokerDangal, Varun Mahna also lauds the Ministry for the move. He opined that Millennials are currently putting a lot of interest in playing games for real money. Since these real money games serve as a good source of income, youths do not just play them for fun but to earn passively. He also believed that not only Millenials are interested in making money, everybody regardless of their age or gender would love to make money passively. And this is what real money gaming offers.

In his words; “What’s great about passive income is that one earns in a way that calls for less structure than a regular 9-to-5 job. And with time, what you earn can add up to your existing savings. Forget millennials, it does not matter the stage of life you are in, creating streams of passive income is always a smart way to make your money work for you.”

He also mentioned that PokerDangal has a high number of users between the ages of 18 to 35 and that the platform is currently seeing an increase in the number of female gamers.

Online gaming has not only been a source of entertainment but also a form of making money. Games like Rummy, Teen Patti, Poker have not only entertained Indians but have awarded lots of attractive prizes from games and competitions.

But apart from local competitions and tournaments that offer cash prizes, there are also international leagues where gamers play with people from other countries. These international leagues do not only award prizes but give room for gamers to interact and build quality networks.

However, the current India Gambling Laws do not permit real money games and this does not allow the country to enjoy the full benefits. Many companies that offer real money games are located outside India. The country currently does not benefit from the huge profits made by these companies.

“Games like Teen Patti have always been sought after by Indian gamers. Being able to play it for money online has made it possible. Unfortunately, the current regulation does not allow Indian businesses to develop and invest in sites and studios that provide Teen Patti.

A new regulation would not only bring more profits to the Indian gaming industry but would also generate immense know-how over time. Many Indians are playing Teen Patti online, but the profits are transferred abroad,” said Arjun Patel, writer of teenpattibaba.in.
