Beltangady: Charmadi Ghat road opens for light vehicles

Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Sep 2: Chikkamagaluru district deputy commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautham has issued an order allowing movement of light vehicles on Charmadi Ghat road.

Due to heavy rains which lashed Charmadi Ghat region on the night of August 5, a huge boulder had got dislodged from the hill and dropped on the road. Several landslides all along the ghat stretch of the road had created obstacles for vehicular movement. As a precautionary measure, vehicles were allowed to move only between 7 am and 7 pm everyday on Charmadi Ghat.

From September 1 onward, light vehicles and KSRTC mini buses have been allowed to operate on the ghat road on all 24 hours of the day.

As the stretch of this road falling under Mangaluru region of National Highways Authority of India had not been damaged, the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district had allowed vehicles to move about in the section falling within that district in the past.

This Charmadi Ghat will be open once again for light vehicles but for how long. Such Ghats should be fixed in such a way that it will last maximum time . These contractors should give a guarantee to the authorities in writing. This id done in most countries around the world.

Our thought process defers a lot. The money saved here can buy another 100-200 MLAs to topple a democratically elected government! Have you seen this type of governance in any of the countries you have visited? Probably not.

Think positive Vivi Master. You have an alternative route via Kalasa, Kudremukh, Mangalore. It is such a scenic beauty and the best road to enjoy a long drive. I bet, madam, kids and your friends too will enjoy this trip though it is bit longer by few Kms. In comparison, the route via Kottigehara, Charmadi, Ujire, Belthangadi is too boring except the ghat section.

I thank God for India where we take good roads for granted sometimes. In some countries like Bolivia, once a road is destroyed, it may not be repaired again forever!
