Beltangady, Aug 8: On Friday, the ghat section of the road near Alekhan on national highway 73 developed cracks. Therefore, steps were taken to ban traffic on Charmadi Ghat road.

As the Malnad region has been experiencing torrential rainfall since the last two days, Charmadi Ghat has experienced landslides at several places. On Friday, work on emergency basis was taken up to clear mud and other debris which got deposited on the road.

Deputy commissioner of Chikkamagaluru district, Dr Bagadi Gautham, issued an order banning vehicular traffic on the Charmadi Ghat road from Friday morning till August 11. The vehicles have been asked to take alternative route via Mudigere Handpost-Janapura-Anemahal-Shiradi-Gundia road (NH 75).
