Bantwal, Aug 7: Traffic police personnel, who otherwise hold lathis and direct traffic on road, were seen with a hoe and a basket to fix potholes on the highway here. This selfless deed by the police personnel has been applauded by the people.

The relentless rain since the last several days here has resulted in many potholes throughout the highway here resulting in traffic jams from B C Road to Mani every day. The condition was similar in front of Melkar traffic police station. Several two-wheeler riders have been victims of these potholes, where they have fallen off their vehicles and injured themselves. Police personnel who realised the problems have taken a hoe, basket and closed the potholes waking up the department.

The company which dug the road everywhere for four-lane traffic has left the work incomplete. This has caused motorists to face the brunt of their shoddy work. Further, the rainwater has overflown along the highway as there is no proper drainage system.
