Kundapur: This law graduate has been feeding stray dogs since four months

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (MS/HB)

Kundapur, Jul 30: The long lockdown has taught several lessons of life to human beings. Many have exhibited exemplary acts of humanity, generosity, helpfulness to their fellow human beings. However, some even went to the extent of helping animals, that too stray ones, the condition of whom was miserable.

Out of the many animals which suffered a lot during the lockdown are the stray dogs. Most of them used to feed on the leftovers that were fed to them by hotels. However, as the hotels were closed during the lockdown, the sight of street dogs longing for food was heart-wrenching. Monisha Gabriel, a resident of Hangloor in the taluk is one such Good Samaritan who has been feeding the street dogs for the past four months.

Monisha says, "Animals also have the right to live just like human beings. But they are unable to express themselves. However, if one understands their silent wailing, this can be known." She has been feeding hygienic and tasty food for the dogs for the past four months.

Monisha is originally from Kundapur and has secured law degree from the Lancashire University of England. She has plans of starting her own business in her native place. In addition, she has plan to start a NGO for the protection of domestic animals which are left on streets. She is planning to construct sheds to rescue and treat stray dogs. Her friend Aravind Fernandes has also joined hands with Monisha in this noble cause.

Monisha starts boiling rice for stray dogs, right from 7 am. Her parents also help her in this work. Along with variety of food, she also feeds chicken meat to the dogs. She has bought new plates for dogs to eat. Once the dogs eat the food, she herself cleans the plates. She also rears two dogs herself.

Everyday nearly 15 kilos of rice is being used for this purpose. She is indulged in feeding the stray dogs from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. When it rains, Monisha uses her car as shed to the animals and feeds them. She says that she gets immense satisfaction in this work.

Seeing her noble work on the social media, some animal lovers are donating rice, milk, food and biscuit packets. She wants to name her NGO as 'AADYA’ in Kannada, which means Adi and Anthya and also Durga in Kannada.

Monisha is also penning a book, inspired by Bhagavad Gita. "Lockdown has taught lessons of life to all. My parents are also supporting me. When it comes to sincerity and faithfulness, animals are far better than human beings. The stray dogs which I feed are the best examples for this. They come running to me whenever they see me around and play with me out of love. They never forget the service which I am doing to them," says Monisha Gabriel.

Good work Monisha... And best wishes for success in your plans n endeavours.

Yes there will be some who say feed a human instead of an animal. Pay no heed to such words of discouragement. You feed a human, some may say there were other people more deserving than the one you fed! Each and every one of us can contribute more or do more in service of our society's or nation's well being. There's no limit. Let's do whatever bit we think is right and not be bothered about negative comments.

Thanks to Daijiworld for recognising the good work of Monisha Gabriel.

It is quite heartening to know about Christians taking initiative in resolving socioeconomic issues around Koteshwara. Couple of years back, we had instances of criminal acts even to the extent of stealing and selling of statues of Thirthankaras. It is good sign to see community changing for the better.

It is better to feed a dog rather than human
If you feed a dog only one day
It will never forget you untill its death
    But not human
Human you feed every day but one day if you don't then the story will be different
He will use best possible abusive language
    Hats off to monisha

Joshua, Mangalore...I agree with you but no need to feed them. Just talk to them and touch them and they will be with you always. Dogs are not selfish like human beings for sure. They can understand who likes them just by a glance. There are a few dogs which were never in contact with human beings. But they never come near you to harm or never bother about you.

Good job Monisha and keep it up. May God bless you for your noble and compassionate work. Here I do the same during my evening walks, but my feeding is limited to few dogs which are weak and in a helpless state. Still sometimes I face objection from people for feeding street dogs complaining that they are a threat to them. But I never saw my stray dogs which I was feeding showing any aggression to anyone. In my neighbourhood people will throw their leftover food to trash to rot but they will not bother to feed a hungry and helpless dog. The dogs will always remain faithful and show gratitude to the people who feeds them.

Joseph mangalore, how can you abuse a person in media whom you dont know.He writes sometime one has to understand first .let him write. He has the right.Mentally sick is everyone a bit.what the girl is doing one side a social service or humanity .Other side I find instead of feeding so much of rice to stray dogs could also be given to people who are more in need of this at this corona time.I dont say her work is bad.Depends how one takes it.Other side when dogs are so much fed by humans get used and one fine day they may run behind people and by not feeding start barking and bite.I find she should collect these dogs in one place and feed there. Not allowing to stray on roads.

' Humanity is above all religion '.. It is just not enough to sit in an arm chair and write it every other time as a comment.

One needs to understand what one writes... Humanity is not about being humane to humans... but to the nature full of life all around us... and there need not be any priorities... It is secondary...
    Excellent Work Monisha.. God bless...

I disagree with point made by Rita, Germany bai......"Other side when dogs are so much fed by humans get used and one fine day they may run behind people and by not feeding start barking and bite.".....dogs are not like that. Once they know you and like you even without giving food they come behind you for sure. They just expect love from humans and not food, although they need food. But they will never bark and bite not for food for sure.
