Traffic briefly halted at Delhi's Minto Bridge amid rainfall

New Delhi, Jul 22 (IANS): After a heavy downpour was reported on Wednesday, the Delhi Traffic Police was quick to close the Minto Bridge underpass.

The stretch, in the heart of the city, saw a rain related death on Sunday after a tempo driver drowned in the water that had filled underpass.

"Traffic is affected under Minto Bridge due to water logging. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes," the Delhi Traffic Police Twitter handle said.

Later, as the water receded, the stretch was opened. This was done on Tuesday too after heavy rain.

The Minto bridge underpass has been a challenge for the civic agencies for many years as the water logging on the stretch has been a serious issue.

An obstruction in the traffic from Chirag Delhi towards Nehru Place, due to the breakdown of a bus near the Savitri Cinema, was also reported.

Also, water logging was reported near the WHO building on the Ring Road towards Bhairon Marg. On Tuesday, a portion of the Bhiaron road also caved in.

The traffic police also advised the motorists to use the DND and Barapullah flyovers to reach Ashram and South Delhi.
