Mangaluru: CPIM Ullal zone stages protests over lack of development in town

Mangaluru, Jul 13: CPIM Ullal zone held protests in front of Someshwar municipal council office on Monday.

CPIM Ullal zone secretary Krishnappa Salian said though Someshwar gram panchayat was upgraded as municipal council several years ago, no development works have taken place. “The house taxes are raised to exorbitant levels. As there are no stormwater drains, the rainwater flows on the road spoiling them. Drinking water supply also is not satisfactory,” he said.

“Those who did not have shelter had applied for sites several years ago. They have not been allotted sites. Street lights have not being erected wherever necessary. The spike in coronavirus infected is not being controlled. Not even kits are being supplied to the houses of infected,” he alleged.

Janwadi Women’s Association zonal president Padmavati Shetty, Ullal zone centre committee member Jayanth Naik, DYFI Ullal zone president Ashraf K C Road, Pushpa Pilar, Babu Pilar, Sundar Kumpala, Santhosh Shetty Pilar, Krishnappa Prakash Nagar, Lokesh Pilar, Cyril D’Souza, Soumya Pilar, Dharmaraj, Chandrashekar Pilar, Babu Shetty, Gopal Pilar, Sharath Kumar Bhandary, Abbasali Mundoli, Abdul Lathif, Navin Kumpala, Ibrahim Madaka, Padmanabha, Vittal Krishna and others were present.

The group demanded that only the earlier rates of property taxes should be collected, roads and drainages should be repaired, sites should be provided to the landless, permanent workers should be appointed to maintain pumps of drinking water, street lights in inner roads, facilities to pay property tax in nationalized banks, the supply of kits to coronavirus infected patients, collection of deposits for water supply should be stopped immediately.
