Mangalore, Feb 25: St Aloysius College (autonomous) has been declared College with Potential for Excellence (CPE).

Of the 149 colleges selected for the honour during the third phase, St Aloysius College features for excellent infrastructure, quality education and socially relevant outlook to education.

During each plan, the University Grants Commission (UGC) accords the status of “College with Potential for Excellence” to recognize the potential and merit of educational institutions and to encourage them to excel further. Consequently, the selected university/college gets fillip for further research and infrastructural development.

Under the jurisdiction of Mangalore University, only two educational institutions, including St Aloysius College, have received the special recognition, where as in the state 21 colleges are recognized as CPEs.

Earlier, the college had gone in for a re-accreditation with UGC’s National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) in December 2009, and the NAAC, on the inspection and recommendation of its peer team had accorded the college with a rare “A” grade with 3.48 points.

Everyone wants good things in life including quality education. And such quality education can come only from a dedicated institution like St. Aloysius College. This is not to belittle the other institutions in and around our place who also have their own prominence around. But the distinct 'quality' is there to be seen when every parent wants their child to be admitted to this prestigious place of learning. The Jesuits are a class apart and they are a special brand when it comes to education. In each and every state of India there is a shining Jesuit school or college which brings out star citizens for India. May the Jesuits be successful in everything they do and let us all be grateful for their sacrifices made by educating our children irrespective of caste, creed or colour from all walks of life in our community. Long live St. Aloysius College and the Jesuits.

Indeed it is a matter of pride to all of us Mangaloreans and Aloysians as well. The hard work and dedication of Jesuit priest over the years has paid rich dividends by this rare recognition of CPE......Good going g St Aloysius, we all love to hear good things about this great institution. I pray that God would shower all His blessing with good health to the Jesuits priests, teachers and students, who made this rare feat possible.

What strange. On one side we accept and appreciate christian instituitions for imparting quality education and making its student more responsible towards the country and society, on the other hand we hate them and attack and sdestroy these insitituions and their places of worship. Are not in age of hpocrisy surrounded by full of hypocrites. Good work christian brethern. You are in the front in education, social service, community service, upliftment, peace and love. Keep it irrespective of million odds. May God bless youall...
