Mumbai, Jul 6: Many parts of the city witnessed water logging after heavy rains pelted in Mumbai and coastal Maharashtra for the third consecutive day. The rains coincided with tidal waves upto 4.65 metres which resulted in waterlogging in various parts of the city.

Earlier this morning the island city recorded a rainfall of 26.79 mm according to the Colaba weather observatory whereas the Santacruz observatory reported 103.9 mm rainfall which covers the western and eastern parts of the city.

The city has recorded almost 50 percent of July's average rain in the past five days alone. Until Sunday, the city reported to have received 489 mm rain since July 1. However in June, the city recorded 395 mm, lowest monthly rains in five years.

The meteriological department of India has alerted heavy rains at isolated locations with intense (20-30 mm) to very intense (30-50 mm) rains expected.

An official from the meteriological department stated, " On Sunday, Mumbai recorded its second-highest 24-hour rain (200.8 mm) for July in over the past five years. Last year, the city had recorded 375.2 mm rain on July 2, which was the highest 24-hour rain recorded in the month since 2015."

The heavy rains resulting in water logging caused has affected various parts of the city. BEST bus routes had to be diverted to ease the commute. Since afternoon, the rains have reportedly subsided.

The Met department has predicted heavy downpour in the next 24 hours in isolated locations as Palghar, Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Konkan.
