Udupi, Jul 1: Deputy commissioner (DC) of the district, G Jagadeesha, on Wednesday July 1, assured people that community spread has not so far been set into Udupi district. He advised the people not to panic.

He said that people from Mumbai belonging to high risk groups, who display symptoms of coronavirus infection, have been mandated to undergo health checks. He pointed out that every day, on an average, 200 to 250 persons arrive in the district by trains and other means from Mumbai.

"Out of four coronavirus patients on ventilator support in the district, three are recovering. The other person is in critical condition, but has shown 20 percent recovery. There is no need for the people to worry, but they have to be cautious," he advised.

Jagadeesha stated that orders has already been issued to conduct health checks of people functioning in places where there are huge crowds, like shopping mall staff, delivery boys, bus drivers and conductors etc. He advised people not to neglect even minor signs of the disease like fever. He said that saving every life happens to be the topmost goal.

The DC said that bus drivers who have proved coronavirus positive keep visiting Bengaluru, and asserted that so far there have not been any signs to conclude that the community spread stage has been reached.

"Both education and health departments have been working in tandem, duly keeping in mind the health concerns of SSLC students. There is no permission to hold big meetings or functions. We have not closed down tourist spots, but the district does not have the capacity to monitor and look after tourists coming from other districts. Therefore, unnecessary travel should be avoided," he said.
