Udupi: Stubborn passengers without masks driven out of bus

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jul 1: In an incident which happened in the city on Wednesday June 30, two passengers who stubbornly refused to wear masks and dared the others to act against them, were forcibly evicted from the bus by the fellow passengers.

This incident happened in a bus bound for Kundapur from Udupi. The passengers in the bus noticed that two of the passengers were seated inside the bus without any masks. The passengers complained about this to the bus conductor. Even after the conductor asked the passengers concerned to either wear masks or get down, they remained stuck on their seats.

When other passengers persisted with their demand that the two passengers should wear masks, they shouted back at them, daring them to act against them. They continued to quarrel with the passengers and the conductor. Enraged by the behaviour of the two passengers, the other passengers stopped the bus, gave a thorough dressing down to the stubborn passengers and made them get out of the bus.

Its the common factor raising its ugly head again . When the Govt implements something, they want to oppose and create ruckus and go on a rampage. Or get on to website with fake ids like 'Ramesh' 'Suresh' etc and bash the Govt. When countered, they play the victim card.

It's a great sense of relief that those guys were not residents hailing from Bombay or from the Gulf. The past number of days the general notion amongst Udupiites as given to understand was that the people from Bombay and Gulf were entirely responsible for allowing the spread of Corona pandemic to enter into this temple town and more so a hate attitude transpired in the aftermath.

I can thoroughly gauge the extremely volatile situation and the drama in the bus.

It's only Ego clash among passengers! People don't really understand the seriousness of the situation.

Mask is not like driving licence that you just carry & show when Police ask for it. You need to wear mask properly to cover your mouth & nose, which are the most vulnerable areas for Corona attack!

A corona virus can travel from one person to other with in one meter range from the saliva, which travels from one person to other person while shouting, talking or even laughing!

I had been to mlore in the mid June and it was to my shock that most ppl dint wear masks nor helmets...even the very few ppl who wore masks were wearing them below their nose or on their chin... So i dont see why this is such a big news... Also i saw simple cloth masks which should be worth Rs.20 being sold at Rs.200.. supermarkets had sanitizer but nobody was thr to take temperature n provide the sanitizer...nor there was a self sanitizing machines... Also loads of youngsters were sitting near small shops drinking tea n smoking... When educated ppl act this way...i dont know wat else to expect...

But in the video, none of them are wearing masks - not the conductor or the guy in the blue shirt. So everyone is negligent. I feel these people including the transporters think that masks are a fashion statement to be worn only when you are sitting in the bus. Beware corona can find you anywhere.

Its for our safety as well as others. We must support each ither during these times . The only way to do so is to follow safety protocols and help the vulnerable and the old from contracting the virus. We must not be selfish thinking just about oneself while there are so many out there vulnerable to the virus. While you might be immune , not everyone is the same.

It is right to insist that passengers wear mask when travelling in the bus. They should not be allowed to board if they are not wearing and once inside if they remove from face, they need to be told to leave.
Looking at the video it is amusing that the persons insisting that mask be worn have taken off mask whilst in close proximity to the two persons who were arguing about mask rule.
