BJP attacks Sonia, says PM relief fund misused in UPA rule

New Delhi, Jun 26 (IANS): The BJP on Friday continued with its attacks against Congress interim Chief Sonia Gandhi on the issue of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) receiving donations from the Chinese Embassy here, as ruling party president J. P. Nadda accused her of diverting the money of the citizens during the UPA rule into a family run foundation.

Nadda said it was not only brazen fraud, but a big betrayal to the citizens of the country. While targetting Sonia Gandhi, he said one family's hunger for wealth has cost this nation immensely and demanded Congress' imperial dynasty to apologise.

"The PMNRF (Prime Minister National Relief Fund), meant to help people in distress, was donating money to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation in UPA years. Who sat on the PMNRF board? Sonia Gandhi. Who chairs RGF (Rajiv Gandhi Foundation)? Sonia Gandhi. Totally reprehensible, disregarding ethics, processes and not bothering about transparency," Nadda said in a series of tweets.

He said, "People of India donated their hard earned money to the PMNRF to help their fellow citizens in need. To divert this public money into a family run foundation is not only a brazen fraud, but also a big betrayal of the people of India."

While attacking the Gandhi family, the BJP President said, "One family's hunger for wealth has cost the nation immensely. If only they have devoted their energies towards a more constructive agenda. The Congress' Imperial Dynasty needs to apologise to the unchecked loot for self-gains."

On Thursday, a controversy erupted after a startling revelation that the government of the Peoples Republic of China and the Chinese Embassy in India have been funding the RGF led by Sonia Gandhi. She is the Chairperson of the RGF, and its board includes former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, among others.

However, the Congress responded to the BJP's allegations and said, "the BJP should stop living in 2005" and alleged that the ruling party is adopting "diversionary tactics" to avoid answering questions on the Chinese transgressions in Ladakh.

On Thursday evening, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, "Please stop living in 2005 and start answering questions in 2020". Firing a salvo at the BJP, Surjewala asked: "Why is the government mum about the Chinese presence in eastern Ladakh area? In the national interest the nation wants to know the answer to these questions instead of diversionary tactics of the present BJP government."

Surjewala said, "I can ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, is it not true that the only Chief Minister (as Gujarat CM) who visited China four times is none less than Prime Minister Modi, the only Prime Minister who visited China five times is Prime Minister Modi, the only Prime Minister who called the Chinese premier three times is Prime Minister Modi."

Why BJP did not question congress at that time???. BJP was opposing and questioning everything that congress did in those days. BJP is only bringing out this to counter now when congress is questioning about accountability of PM CARES Fund. BJP FYI, PM relief fund was well within CAG and congress has been transparent about it and you too know about it that is why you did not raise questions during UPA rule. Now you think people have forgotten you are just making a noise to misinform people. Go and ask CAG for all documents and evidences and do the same with PM CARES if you are a Honest govt. We can challenge you in the parliament and JPC and file a case in SC. You have lot of choices, but do you dare?????

The Disaster Management Act of 2005 envisages public contributions to the NDRF, which, unlike PM CARES, is subject to CAG audit and RTI. But the government has yet to open a bank account for donations.

    1. As PM CARES collects crores, National Disaster Relief Fund still awaits bank account?
    2. Like the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), which has existed for disaster relief since 1948, why Prime Minister Modi needs to create 'PM CARE FUND' set up during the lock down that has be only audited by independent auditors picked by the ruling government?

The BJP is defending its own corruption by diverting the question at the Congress. The BJP has no rights to question the Congress unless the party gives day to day account of donations of 'PM Care Fund' in government portal on daily basic.

We the citizens of the nation wanted to know the donations are reaching to deserved people. Unfortunately those fake anti-corruption crusade Anna Hazare , Salwar Baba, Delhi CM Kejirwal and Governor Kiran Bedi all are missing and taken 'Maun vrath' on BJP's own version of 2G scam.

The people of India are not interested anymore at what happened during the Congress rule. the Congress was punished in 2014 for its acts of commission and ommission.

Modi JI and Nadda you have to take full responsibility for all acts of commission and ommission during your six years rule. Dont indulge in your favourite passtime of ignoring issues raised against your Govt and try to divert the issue by raising allegations about the congress.

we have seen through your dubious game plan of ignoring allegations raised against you and instead attack the messenger.

The PMO statement that incursion hasn’t happened has rather put us in awkward position.. Your statement doesn’t make any sense. BJP retorts to the usual tactic to divert the attention. The question remains “How much China has occupied in Ladakh”? Let Mr.56 respond..

When the economy was doing so good, what was the need to steal ? Stealing is what is currently being done - PM Cares Fund with no permission to audit.

Why Modi didn't let PM Relief fund be used for COVID-19 donations ? PM Relief Fund is subjected to audit. But Modi excluded PM Cares Fund from being subjected to audit.

This is the difference Mr. Nadda, people have brains, they are not dumb.
