GMU signs agreement with Thumbay University Hospital to implement int'l academic health centres

Ajman, Jun 25: Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, the leading medical university in the Middle East region has signed an agreement with the 350-bed Thumbay University Hospital at Al Jurf, Ajman, according to which the hospital will apply, implement and follow the international standards of academic centres according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and international accreditation bodies like the Joint Commission International (JCI). The hospital will serve as a clinical training site for the students of the University, being the academic health centre of Gulf Medical University Academic Health System (GMUAHS).

Although the Thumbay Hospitals network is being used as academic hospitals, this new hospital has considered its academic role as an integral part of its mission.

The agreement was signed by Prof Hossam Hamdy chancellor of GMU and Akbar Moideen Thumbay vice-president of the healthcare division of Thumbay Group, in the presence of Dr Thumbay Moideen, founder-president of Thumbay Group, deans of the Colleges of GMU, and members of the administrative team of Thumbay Group.

The agreement also aims to facilitate continuous training of the staff of Thumbay University Hospital by GMU, and to collaborate for joint educational programs and translational research, in addition, to jointly organizing scientific conferences and continuing professional development programs.

Hossam Hamdy said that the agreement marks a significant expansion of GMU’s clinical training facilities. "We are happy to sign this agreement, strengthening our network of healthcare partners within the GMU Academic Health System. This is an important milestone for GMU, as our students will now be trained by some of the leading medical experts at the university hospital. The benefits they stand to gain from such valuable interactions with seasoned physicians and healthcare professionals are manifold and will help their careers immensely. Moreover, they also get to work on advanced technologies and internationally accredited systems within multiple specialties,” he said.

Akbar Moideen Thumbay said that the hospital was delighted to partner with GMU, to facilitate the clinical training of the University’s students. "Thumbay University Hospital has established collaborative partnerships with renowned hospitals and institutions worldwide. Being part of the quality care at the hospital delivered through our various Centers of Excellence will be an invaluable learning experience for GMU students. Elaborating on the facilities of the hospitals, Akbar Moideen Thumbay added, “Thumbay University Hospital is a state-of-the-art family healthcare destination having a dedicated 100-bed long term care and rehabilitation unit, Centre for Oncology equipped with PET-CT scan, 10 modern surgical suites for all major specialties, Center for Imaging, Cath Lab, ICU/CCU/NICU/PICU, 10-bed dialysis unit. The hospital has a dedicated ‘Mother and Child’ floor including 10 labor and delivery rooms, NICU, SCBU, Well Baby Unit. and Marhaba services – Personalized fast track services for patients, in addition to Presidential Suite rooms, VIP rooms, private rooms. The Thumbay Pharmacy located within Thumbay University Hospital is the biggest robotic pharmacy in the country with automated robotic technology to prepare and dispense medicines.
