Udupi: Signboard 'renaming' Karavali junction disappears overnight

Daijiworld media network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Jun 7: The signboard 'renaming' Karavali junction here has been removed overnight by unidentified people.

On Saturday June 6, a board had appeared on Karavali junction flyover declaring its name as 'Pejawar Shree Vishweshatheertha flyover' causing curiosity among the locals.

However, on the morning of Sunday June 7, the signboard was found to have been removed.

People responsible for installing the signboard are yet to be identified.

It may be recalled that such incidents of 'renaming' of flyovers has been reported in Mangaluru and Bengaluru. Unlike the incidents in Mangaluru where Bajrang Dal graffiti had appeared beside the banners, no graffiti was found at Udupi's Karavali junction.

Flyovers, Bridges and roads can be named after Rivers, mountains and exotic trees. We should be thankful to these natural elements around us rather than people.

The municipal should be come up with concept of planting trees and urban beautification. If any organisation that want to name the bridge after should be yearly contract who in turn will take care the maintenance, landscape, cleaning.
Let them start planting 10 flowering tree or fruit bearing trees in every person they wanted name after.

According to the International standard street and bridges give them numbers as per area name.

I think it is good suggestions to end all the communal politics naming the bridge. The Municipal corporation should yearly contact to whomsoever the name to be given who will take care of maintenance, green vegetation and cleaning.

Only in India there is mushroom of signboards. This should be replaced with more green cover with increasing urban temperature.
