Even elephant death is used to spread hatred: Ahmed Patel

New Delhi, June 4 (IANS): After two persons were taken into custody for the death of an elephant in Kerala, Congress treasurer Ahmed Patel has lashed out to people who want to take advantage of the situation and misrepresent facts to divide the society.

Patel tweeted: "It is sad that the climate in our country has become so bitter that even in the tragic death of an elephant, some are trying to misrepresent the facts to twist into an issue of one community Vs the other?"

Meanwhile, Kerala forest department team probing the killing of the pregnant elephant is leant to have taken two persons into custody.

The local Manarakadu police station on Wednesday registered a case in the gruesome incident.

"The forest department and the police are probing the incident and we are confident of finding the villains behind this crime," said Sub Inspector of Police T.K. Ramachandran.

According to veterinarians who treated the 15-year-old pregnant elephant, some miscreants while chasing away the elephants who occasionally stray into the agricultural land had kept fire crackers inside a pineapple.

When the elephant started eating it, the crackers burst, seriously injuring its upper and lower jaw and tongue.

The injured elephant, according to forest officials, was first spotted by locals near a water source on May 23. Two days later an elephant expert after a medical assessment said things were bad for the animal.

On May 25, the elephant was found dead in slushy water.

"Despite our best efforts to get the elephant out of water, it did not come out and died," said a local villager.

A post-mortem conducted on the elephant two days later reveled that the elephant was two-month pregnant. Experts pointed out that this was the elephant's first pregnancy.

Ahmed Patel is another person because of whom congress party is defeated repeatedly. Ahmed Patel Oscar Mani Iyer Nabi Azad Veerappa Moily Kamalnath Digvijatysingh etc should be made to sit on the bench immediately without any office or powers in the party. Because of these useless people the good party leaders are suppressed. Good leaders like Scindia are leaving the party.
Congress people who have won elections in Maharastra Karnataka or anywhere else should be selected and given powers to revive congress.
Finally Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi too should not take part in active politics. However right and correct they both are, no one is listening to them. At the most they may win one seat if people vote for them. The rest of the old bunch should definitely be out.

What moral authority Mr Ahmed Patel has to talk of national integration when, just last year ago, properties worth Rs 9,778 crore plus four oil rigs and an oil field in Nigeria, plus an aeroplane & a bungalow in London, were attached in a money laundering case against his own pharmaceutical company and defrauding several domestic and offshore branches of Indian banks?

This incident is really a tragic one. A elephant lost his life for human greed. What is more tragic is we humans give it a communal angle.

Incident happened in Mannarkad in Palakkad district. BJP leader Menaka Gandhi tweeted saying it happened in Muslim majority Malappuram district, following which IT Cell warriors lashed out at Keralites for eating beef.

All the right leaning national and regional media reported this incident as if the pineapple was intentionally fed to kill the elephant. Is it possible to feed a wild elephant directly???? Actual incident is some farmer wanted to avoid crop loss by frightening smaller animals like Pigs and unfortunately elephant came to his farm that day.

I know lot of farmers keep 'urulu' in Tulunadu to catch wild animals coming to farm land. Lot of times pet dogs fall prey to it.

Lets us look into ourselves how we are looking after wildlife in our neighbourhood. How many wild animals lost life due to Yettinahole project? What have we done to avoid that disaster? Now we are here blaming whole state or a religion for because one elephant died!!!!
