After Gowda episode, Karnataka exempts ministers, officials from quarantine

Bengaluru, May 26 (IANS): The Karnataka government exempted Union and state ministers and officials from quarantine, which it made mandatory for all entering the state from other states or overseas to contain the Covid-19 outbreak, a top official said on Monday.

"The ministers of Union government or state governments or officers on duty will be exempted from quarantine as has been done for health professionals," said state Health Commissioner P.K. Pandey in an order here.

The order has also exempted any person who gets a Covid negative test certificate from an ICMR approved lab which is not more than 2 days old from the date of journey, from institution quarantine.

The order has also exempted airlines crew on official duty from quarantine.

The order came on a day when Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers D.V. Sadananda Gowda was allowed to exit the airport on arriving from New Delhi without going into 7-day institutional quarantine, as other passengers who too came from the national capital, which is one of the 6 most Covid-hit states in the country.

Gowda, a Lok Sabha member from the Bangalore North constituency, flew into the city in a commercial flight on the first day of resumption of domestic services after 63 days of lockdown.

"I am exempted under the clause by the state government as well as the Central government," Gowda told a local news channel when asked how he could avoid the mandatory quarantine on landing from Delhi.

Very good example of Karnataka Government. Atleast they would declared before DVS boarding the flight. No problem they after he reached the destination. Now we call our state " CORONATAKA". We are learning many lessons from these high profile politicians. Keep it up CM saab. You are doing a good job.

The Karnataka quarantining rules do not mention any exceptions for ministers.

Among those allowed to skip institutional quarantine are businessmen “coming for urgent work,” and bidders “coming to participate in auctions if perishable agricultural commodities”. They need to carry negative COVID-19 test reports not older than two days from the date of travel from an ICMR approved lab.

The rules mention that even defence, paramilitary, railways, DRDO, ISRO, and PSU officials are to undergo institutional quarantine at designated guest houses.

Is Karnataka BJP is making the same mistake of Madhya Pradesh throughout the horsetrading in March, Chouhan had appeared multiple times on national television, maintaining, “Corona-Vorona kuch nahi hota hai (Roughly, ‘The coronavirus is not a threat’). Close to 50 of the state’s top health ministry officials in Bhopal, including principal secretary (health), are quarantined, isolated or in the ICU.

Principal Secretary (Health) and Additional Director Information/Communication (Health) tested positive for Covid-19 last week after they reportedly hid the travel history of their sons who had returned from the USA on March 16.

Is BJP in Karnataka is going to make another epicenter of hotpots for 'Corona Virus' in India?

Every citizens of India has important things to do, not just ministers.
A ration shop worker coming back to his work place, a businessman coming back to open his shop from other state, an employee of organisation or factory coming back to work, everyone’s time is precious. If they have to be and can be quarantined what stops ministers. “Minister” name cannot bring immunity buster to body that protects as defence from corona.

Why they should be exempted as they are above the law or common people. Rules should be for all. Only In India we have two set of rules one for rich and other for Common People. Actually before it was govt for the people, by the people , But no it is opposite in India. In India govt are not public servant but they act as they are the rulers and the king

Why making such things so big. These politicians neither come in front of you nor they come and hug you unless it is election time. So dont worry you are out of their infection. Instead try to be safe yourself and keep your family safe. Let them stay as they like. Afterall they are nominated as our representatives to the govt by us only. Now they have power which we have given to them and they make use of it. Stay cool guys and stay safe.

This is utter nonsense. Why does the virus exempt these VIPs from infecting? It's not the question, one is VIP or ordinary man. It's the possibility of getting infection. This order of the government shows its lack of will to tackle Covid virus.
