Beltangady, May 25: Officials of Beltangady town panchayat on Monday May 25 swooped down on shops violating the lockdown guidelines and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on hotels and shop owners.

The raid was led by chief officer Sudhakar.

Tender coconut water can only be sold as a takeaway, but two shopkeepers were allowing customers to consume it in their premises. The team has imposed fine on the shops in this connection. Those who had come without wearing masks were made to pay Rs 50 each as fine.

They warned the public through loudspeakers to maintain social distance, wear masks mandatorily, not to bring children and elderly persons to the market and observe other lockdown guidelines strictly.

Hotels can serve food only through takeaway parcels. Seven hotels which violated the rule were fined Rs 5,000 each. Raids will be conducted every day henceforth and violators will be fined, the officials said.

Engineer Mahaveera Ariga and police department personnel were present during the raids.
