Bengaluru: Lockdown 3.0 - Pending SSLC, PU exams to be delayed further?

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, May 3: As the lockdown over coronavirus outbreak has further extened, there is a possibility that the SSLC examinations and the remaining English examination of PUC will be delayed further.

The third phase of lockdown to control coronavirus pandemic has been extended by another two weeks. In addition, the number of infected people in certain districts is also increasing. This will have a direct impact on the pending SSLC and PUC examinations. Though the government has given the go ahead to conduct the examinations, sources says that there is no possibility of conducting these examinations for the time being.

Revision classes for SSLC students were also started on Doordarshan with the aim of holding the examinations after May 3. The education department had mulled conducting the examinations in the last week of May or first week of June in case the situation got better. However, as the lockdown has been extended by another two weeks, the government and the officials of the education department are in a fix as to when to hold these examinations.

Second PUC students also are concerned as they have written all the examinations except the English paper. The valuation of their answer papers also has not yet begun.

Umashankar, chief secretary, primary and secondary education department said, "All preparations has been done to conduct SSLC examinations without causing any inconvenience to the students. Within a few days of conducting the examination, we will do the valuation of answer papers and declare results."

Kangavalli, director of pre-university department said, "We will conduct English examination that is pending for second PUC students. The date will be announced after the completion of the the third phase of lockdown. We are holding discussions in this regard."

Sir....now it is like a burden on us(sslc students).... We are not able to concentrate on studies nor we can be tention free.... And also, as the cases are being increased to the maximum these days..... I (as an sslc student) kindly request you to cancel the sslc or announce the timetable soon and make us free from this burden....i am having sleepless nights and i keep checking the news for sslc... Im sure all of my sslc mates would be doing this.... I feel results based on preparatory and our project marks and all the other exams we wrote during the year, will be the safest and stress free.

Is it of such paramount importance to conduct an exam(that too a not very important one considering its a language subject) when the more pressing matter is dealing with a fully blown pandemic getting tougher to control by the day. The people working in the PUC dept. should give it a thought and just cancel the exam or just report every student as "PASSED" for English in the report card (that is just an idea). Taking internal assessment marks is no good as we all know that it wont be a fair assessment.

Exams are important but not so early... Let all these sessions of lockdown get over first. Because Precaution is better than the cure.. But promoting the students without exams is also not good on part of those who have done lots of hard work.
Let it be late but exams should be conducted. Let the evaluation be little liberal,.
Care should be taken to maintain social distancing, to avoid any risk of breaking the rule of social distancing during travel to exam center exams can be conducted in the same school where the student studies or any nearby schools...

The children received knowledge and education of their respective class. They had been best judged by respective school by conducting preparatory exams. The pending thing is evaluations by an outsider. There is no chance of paper leak,no tension to students and parents,no manipulation of marks or results,no more importance to tutorials if exam is cancelled. The students can prepare for competitive exar. There is no risk of covid19.The students are as important as farmers, industrialists,Labour, industry, economic activities. The concerned may shed their pride and protect and save children
