AYUSH Minister meets Jaishankar over evacuation of seafarers


Panaji, Apr 20 (IANS): Union Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Naik on Monday met Union Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar in Delhi to discuss evacuation of thousands of seafarers, including around 8,000 Goan sailors, stranded across the world.

"Met with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar ji today to discuss the issue of seafarers of Goa and from other parts of country who are stranded in different parts of world," Naik, a Lok Sabha MP from North Goa, tweeted.

Naik in his tweet also said that "possible efforts are being made to bring back the stuck seafarers to their home" and that Indian embassies overseas had been advised to extend "all possible help to them".

The Goa government is compiling a list of its over 8,000 seafarers, stranded on different ships at sea and various ports of call across the world.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that his government with the help of the state's hospitality industry, schools and religious institutions is creating a pool of quarantine locations across the state, where these seafarers can be kept in isolation for the mandated period.
