Speaking on the occasion Bhat said, "In 2012 system was in place to supply water for the city of Udupi even during summer. However, due to some errors in decisions, people of the city face water shortage. However, now again this project is put in place so that no shortage of water will happen in the future. This work was planned in January. The lifting work should get over before the water gets over in Swarna river at Sanebettu."

Commissioner of city municipality Anand Kallolikar and assistant executive engineer Mohanraju were present on the occasion.

Speaking to Daijiworld, DC Jagadeesha said, "We have taken precautions this time around to prevent any scarcity of water during summer months. From four months the work of the project is going on breakneck speed. We have already started water rationing in the city after dividing the same into three zones. If the farmers are using the water of the rivulet for their crops they should use that through jet or spraying. If they violate the rules their pump set will be confiscated and power supply will be disconnected. We have informed the same to agriculture and horticulture department also."
