Mangaluru: 'Not happy', tweets police chief after 211 vehicles seized for violating lockdown

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Apr 5: The city police have confiscated 211 private vehicles for violating lockdown on Saturday, April 4. In addition, Dakshina Kannada district police have taken possession of 73 vehicles for similar offence.

Since April 2, strict lockdown has been imposed in the city, prohibiting private vehicles from plying on the roads for any reason. Only doctors, nurses, hospital employees and mediapersons with valid passes are allowed.

Tweeting in this regard, police commissioner Dr P S Harsha said that he was not happy with people violating the lockdown and warned people against playing with the lives of fellow citzens.

"211 vehicles seized for lockdown violations ..I AM NOT HAPPY .. ARE YOU?? Don't play with lives of fellow countrymen.. comply with instructions.. save yourself and Don't risk others lives to the CORONA pandemic...We will not hesitate to go all the way to enforce...STAY HOME..(sic)," he tweeted.

Though there was restriction on the movement of vehicles in the district, people were seen roaming in their vehicles without any valid reason. The district administration therefore had imposed a complete ban on vehicular movement, except ambulance, emergency service vehicles, hospital employees and the media, from 12.30 pm of April 2 to midnight of April 14.

Strict action on vehicles violating the rules is being carried out under the leadership of DCP Laxmiprasad and ACP Manjunath Shetty under the direction of city police commissioner Dr P S Harsha.

What can be done. All these rules have to be forced since people misuse the relaxation given. When it is told that only one person should come out to buy people come out with family.

There is enough time given in the morning to buy essential things. Even after 12pm police allow to go pharmacy with valid prescription. Police are very cooperative and not using any force on the public. It's the duty of the public to understand and act wisely. However many people go out on two whether after 12pm. Also after 4pm vehicle moment seen increasing on kankanady pumpwell roads.

Police Commissioner Dr. P S Harsha did what he was supposed to do. These 211 vehicle owners violated the law for being on the road during lockdown. If these drivers had a valid pass issued by the authorities, their vehicles would never have been seized. If they had one they could have fight it out.

In addition, please impose a severe fine like what is being done in Dubai. These are all irresponsible individuals and should be dealt with severely.

But what happens if a person has medical problems or has to have to go to the pharmacy? I had a medical emergency at 11:00 am. I don't have my own vehicle. I had to request a Rickshaw and ask him to wait for me. The doctor is doing his rounds and can attend only after the 12:00 pm. So will the Rickshaw driver be penalized because I cannot go back home?

Sir, It is the right decision taken in seizing the vehicles of the violators. Some of our people do not understand the common language and only needs to be communicated in their own language. Now please ensure that every one pays a good sum of fine to release the vehicles and if required cancel driving license of violators if the offence is repeated. Hats off to you...!

If a person having a valid pass is going on a vehicle and there is a puncture, how will the puncture repairer repair it? I feel that there are many services that are essential, in an indirect form.In such cases (others eg plumber, electrician etc) here the administration should provide vehicles to them. For a wheel to move every cog is essential! The country is going through a bad phase and The Police Commissioner is only fulfilling his obligations for the City of Mangalore and for the people of Mangalore. It is therefore expedient that all follow the regulations imposed for the sake of people.

The Police Commissioner is an understanding person but he has to fulfill his obligations for the sake of people.
