Udupi, Apr 4: “According to the directions of KPCC, we have formed a Congress task force committee in all district level to tackle coronavirus and extend helping hands to poor families, needy and marginalized groups of the society,” said U R Sabhapathi, president, District Task Force Committee, Udupi.

He was addressing a press meet held at district Congress office Brahmagiri Udupi here. He said, “This will function with the support of district Congress president, district women wing, former MLAs, zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat members, and councillors of Udupi CMC."

The Congress task force has been helping migrant workers since many days with the help of party workers. The task force opened its office at district Congress headquarter to provide 12 hours service to poor people in the district.

Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to light lamps on Sunday, April 5 evening, Sabhapathi said, “This looks silly and meaningless. There is acute shortage of medicines, sanitizers, masks etc across India. People are not expecting such message from a prime minister. What is the use of it? He should know the reality. If he asks to produce more medicinal accessories, it would be meaningful. If the government of India has prevented foreign visitors to the country in the beginning, India would be stable and safe from coronavirus. Modi is misleading the people of India. We, the task force warriors, are ready to help needy people.”

Over gossip that Congress leaders are divided, he answered, “All former MLAs are working silently in their respective assembly constituencies.Congress party itself has grown with its service and serves the nation even today. We do not want lessons from others. We are not doing this for getting publicity, but for good cause.”

District Congress president Ashok kumar Kodavoor said, “Some are criticising Congress party is doing nothing. But it is totally wrong perception and a misleading statement. Congress leaders are active in social activities and reaching public and trying to fulfill needs of poor people. We are in contact with all party workers and former MLAs as well.

“We are planning to work effectively to reach rural level. We are not doing it for party, but working hard to reach out to many people. It is our duty too. We are getting good number of calls and hence addressing the problems of public," he said.

Veronica Cornelio, taluk panchayat members, Harish Shetty, Kirthi Shetty and others were present.
