CBSE exams for Class 10, 12 cancelled in Gulf nations

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai (SHP)

Dubai, Apr 2: The Central Board of Secondary Education announced the cancellation of board exams for students of Class 10 and 12 in Indian schools in UAE, Qatar and Oman which were scheduled to be held in this academic year.

The decision is taken as a measure to curb the coronavirus infections. Reportedly, CBSE took this decision having previously postponed the exams to reduce the rates of infection in students. An alternative method of evaluation will now be decided upon for students of these classes.

“There are several CBSE schools located in 25 countries,” said the CBSE in a statement. “Each of these countries is also under lockdown and/or have decided to close down the schools for various and differential lengths of time. Under such circumstances, it is felt that the board will not be in a position to hold a differential set of exams for each of these countries.

“Also, in the present situation, it will be difficult to bring the answer books to India for evaluation purposes,” added the organisation. “Therefore, the Board has decided to not hold any more exams for the students of class 10 and 12 schools located outside India. The system of marking/assessment to declare results will be worked out by the Board shortly and informed to these schools.”

Meanwhile, in another announcement, the board urged the stakeholders to only refer to official announcements released by the board and avoid falling prey to rumours.
